  • The Senior Consultant Engineer is a highly experienced technical
    expert who leads the technical design, architecture, and oversight of
    implementation of complex solutions within the Business Line (BL).
  • While they do not have direct reports, they play a crucial role in
    providing technical leadership and mentorship to peers and junior
    engineers. They serve as the technical authority within the team,
    guiding projects from a specialist perspective and ensuring that
    solutions are designed and implemented to the highest industry
    standards.
  • The role focuses heavily on innovative problem-solving, optimizing
    performance, and ensuring the delivery of scalable, efficient, and
    future-proofed solutions. His role collaborates closely with the Senior
    Manager, though their main focus is on the technical direction, rather
    than line management.

Responsibilities

Strategic Input
• Translate the CS Business strategic plan into strategic deliverables.
• Provide thought leadership in the long-term technical vision for the Business Line (BL), aligning technical designs and engineering
decisions with broader organizational goals.
• Work closely with the Senior Manager and leadership team to develop and refine strategies that leverage cutting-edge technologies,
keeping the business competitive and innovative.
• Interpret the integration of BL product domain platforms/ solutions into the underlying technology areas (MNS, Mobile etc.) in support
of multi-services solutions and propositions to customers combining MNS with IoT, Cloud, UCC, Security, etc.
• Align and communicate with other areas of the SA Technology functions related to product domain as well as with the greater MTN
Group Technology teams to monitor compliance and adherence to integration principles application.
• Leverage information provided by the relevant business units relating to demand forecasts and translate it into actionable technology
strategy.
• Collaborate in building the BL’s technical roadmap, ensuring it reflects both current capabilities and future needs, including capacity
for scalability, performance improvements, and new feature development.

Solutions Delivery
• Take ownership of the architecture and design of complex technical solutions from the ground up, ensuring that they are fit for
purpose and aligned with the overall business and technical strategy.
• Oversee the seamless integration of new technologies, platforms, or tools into existing systems, ensuring that all components
function cohesively.
• Focus on creating solutions that are robust, scalable, and maintainable, taking into account potential growth in business demands
and technological advancements.
• Design solutions with an emphasis on performance optimization, ensuring high availability, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
• Master the knowledge of OEM, vendors, and partner landscape and integration services linked to the CS Platform/ Solution areas.
• Provide assistance and technical oversight pertaining to the implementation of new tools, technologies, solutions, and methodologies
• Determine the impact of best technology solutions against constraints (time, budget, etc.) of the client to create win-win outcome for
all stakeholders.
• Assimilate knowledge of the Architecture and Integration horizontal alignment of the CS product domain and sub domains into the
overall Technology Architecture Framework.
• Combine sound business strategy and knowledge with specific technical knowledge into clear actionable and optimised outputs.
• Review innovative industry trends and adopt them in customer solutions.
• Provide suggested solutions and excellent customer experience for end-users.
• Compile various types of detailed reports (e.g. functional, strategic, high-level, periodical progress updates, etc.) aimed at a wide
range of audience (e.g. organisational executives, customers, etc.) in the form of consolidatedsolution documents, costing, and
timelines.
• Confirm alignment between solution requirements and device capabilities during the solution development process.
• Coordinate with the relevant Technology teams on designing system applications that would support business functions and client
requirements.
• Propose correct and applicable solutions to emerging problem statements in the CS space.
• Develop functional knowledge of all domains under CS services (IoT, Cloud and Hosting, Security, UCC, MNS).

Client Relationships
• Establish and maintain internal and external relationships.
• Build solid relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation.
• Interact with customers at enterprise and executive levels.
• Lead discussions and advise customers on selecting the best technical solutions for their needs.
Governance, Policies, Procedures
• Develop guiding principles, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) on how to select and provide the best technical
solutions related to the product domain solutions/ platforms.
• Facilitate collaboration between internal teams and partners to drive joint initiatives and resolve issues.
• Participate in governance forums and required and ensure solutions developed comply with the Business Line standards defined.
• Identify, propose and implement technology and digital enablers to improve standards and compliance. Work in alignment with Group
standards, practices, policies and principles.
• Ensure effective implementation of (and compliance towards) legislative requirements and company policies, processes, and
procedures.
• Manage and provide solutions to escalations that have multiple processes / functions impact on critical path of service delivery.
• Continuously review key risks, issues and dependencies and set mitigation actions. Proactively flag and escalate issues and manage impacts on resources, cost and productivity.
• Where required, lead, set up and participate in operational and tactical meetings.
• Ensure effective service level agreements strategies are in place to support the business.
• Implement proper controls and processes to minimise revenue leakage.
• Ensure proper project controls are in place to manage financial and operational risks across the business.
• Act in accordance to the Delegation of Authority.

Financial Management/ Cost Control
• Provide input into the cycle, assist on business cases, and combine activities-related cost component into CAPEX budgeting.
• Ensure the overall financial health and performance of partner relationships.
• Manage, monitor and control the budgetary needs for Programmes/ Projects , in line with business objectives.
• Review and submit reports for the GM/ SM addressing periodic activity, budget compliance, feedback and key departmental results to
facilitate decision making.
• Manage and optimise the budget, ensuring all expenditure is in line with the agreed budgets.
• Monitor costs and determine initiatives to increase efficiencies and optimise resources – maximise cost/benefit ratios .
• Where relevant, ensure Vendor and IT costs are effectively managed.

People & Culture Management
• Enable and model healthy employee relations and collaborative teamwork.
• As a Senior technical expert in the field, coaching peers involves guiding, mentoring, and supporting colleagues to improve their skills,
performance, and overall effectiveness.
• Share deep domain knowledge and expertise with peers, helping them understand complex concepts and best practices in the
Business Line, fostering knowledge transfer amongst peers.
• Where required, lead formal and informal training sessions on specific product management tools, processes, or methodologies.
• Contribute to building a culture of continuous evaluation and improvement. Drive a culture of high performance, accountability and
consequence management.
• Take ownership of own personal development plans. Maintain self-development and knowledge in all required areas through learning
and research
• Identify own as well as functional training needs.

Qualifications

• 3-year degree equivalent / 4-year tertiary
qualification (Technical/ Commercial) or
related
• Managerial/Strategic programme.

A minimum of 7 years’ experience in ICT &
Converged services planning and delivery
environment.
• Management level track record of 5 years or
more; with at least 3 years’ experience in
leading the design of converged
telecommunications technology
infrastructure for operators.
• Experience working in a global/multinational
enterprise (understanding emerging
markets is advantageous).
• Worked across diverse cultures and
geographies.
