Join the International Crane Foundation as we are seeking a passionate and dedicated Outreach Biologist to join our team near our Rockport, Texas office in Coastal Bend area. As part of our efforts, the Outreach Biologist will be integral in educating local communities, stakeholders, and partners about the importance of Whooping Crane conservation and ICF’s research and habitat protection work. You will represent ICF at various events, such as festivals, banquets, field days, and community gatherings. This role combines hands-on fieldwork with public outreach to help safeguard one of North America’s most iconic and endangered species. This full-time, salaried position has an ideal start date of May and a pay range between $42,000-$45,000 per year. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The position performs these duties on a regular basis. Actual day-to-day assignments may differ.
• Communicate information about Whooping Cranes and why their protection is important by coordinating and conducting presentation events to partner organizations, hunting groups, birding/conservation clubs, educators, farmers, and to local communities.
• Integrate ICF outreach activities at events in the Texas Coastal Bend area with other ongoing programs.
• Provide Whooping Crane knowledge packets to hunting guides and hunting lodges to increase awareness and decrease accidental shootings.
• Maintain a database of metrics for the program.
• Trains volunteers to serve as citizen scientists and supervises their involvement in field and computer-based research activities.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a biological field, communications, sociology, or related discipline.
• Preferably three years of experience in education, outreach, or a related field.
• Strong experience in delivering presentations and educational programs to diverse audiences.
• Experience in fieldwork, data collection, and data entry.
• Proven ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers effectively.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
