Job description

We are an international humanitarian organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and suffering in the world’s poorest countries. Our work expanded into a multi-sectoral programme focusing on urban and rural livelihoods, primary education, HIV and …

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategic and Technical Support: Provide strategic and technical guidance on the livelihood components of the Hanaano initiative to country teams (Nutrition Sensitive Livelihood Programming, Food production (crops and livestock), Financial Inclusion, Value Chains , Market Systems and Natural Resource Management) . Ensure livelihoods approaches address the diverse needs of livelihoods profiles in the region (Agro-pastoral, pastoralist, riverine, peri-urban), particularly focusing on those living in extreme poverty as our core participants who are most at risk of wasting.
  • Capacity Building: Build the technical capacity of programme teams through remote support and country visits. This will involve formal training sessions, webinars, workshops, remote mentoring, programme reviews, evaluations, and sharing key technical resources that reflect best practices in addressing child wasting through tailored livelihood strategies.
  • Programme Support: Provide general support to programmes by leading a Livelihoods Technical Working Group (all Concern and Partner technical Focal Points) and lead on any Livelihood Related Analysis and SOPs.
  • Evidence Synthesis and Application: Synthesize and document practical evidence and learning from the programme. Identify ways to apply this knowledge promptly to improve policy and practice within Concern and among partners, ensuring that it addresses the specific needs of vulnerable groups at risk of wasting.
  • Relationship Development: Foster relationships with other agencies focused on livelihoods, including research institutes and technical working groups. Represent Concern in national and regional forums to advocate for integrated approaches that consider various livelihoods profiles.
  • Advocacy Support: Collaborate with the Advocacy unit to contribute to regional and international policy discussions related to livelihoods. Emphasize the importance of understanding diverse livelihoods profiles in addressing issues related to hunger, conflict, and climate change.
  • Reporting Excellence: Ensure that reports are timely, high-quality, and that information for monthly, partner, and donor reports is accurate and reliable. This includes incorporating insights from value chain analysis to demonstrate the impact of interventions on different livelihood profiles.
  • Operational Research Contribution: Contribute to prioritizing, designing, implementing, and disseminating operational research in livelihoods within the program. Work closely with field teams and research partners to ensure that research findings inform strategies that meet the needs of those most at risk of wasting.
