Fry collection is one of the key activities in the hatchery; proper fry collection means more fish and achieving the demand of the production. The number of fries collected determines how much we can produce in a given time. The aim is to have a uniform and healthy fry collected every day.
KEY DUTIES
- Ensuring all fry collection materials needed are complete (check list)
- Checking the SR hapa if it is ready and well secured, no damage and wind proof.
- Ensuring the dissolved oxygen in pond to be collected should be ≥ 3.0 mg/L before collection.
- Fry collection will be done twice in the morning and afternoon every pond or more if fry is many.
- Proper sampling of fry
- Stocking of fry to the hapa
- Maintain general cleanliness of the hatchery.
- Proper Grading of Fry
- Feeding of Brood stock ponds
- Fry collection net storage and maintenance
- Disinfection of fry collection materials
- Fry data capturing and records maintenance.
- Aid of the other team that in need of extra hands
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- At least Uganda Certificate of Education.
- Certificate in Fisheries Management and Technologies (preferred).
- Need to be able to swim and be comfortable on water.
- Ability to solve and do simple math calculations.
