WaterAid Uganda is seeking a Project assistant for the SCIF Project. The project combines
service delivery with community-level hygiene education and behavioural change promotion to
improve and sustain the delivery of WASH services, which will address vulnerable populations’
acute water and sanitation needs.
Besides increasing the quantity of water supply by enhancing functionality of boreholes through
rehabilitations, the project will also improve water quality through hygiene promotion of
environmentally friendly household water treatment options and the safe water chain which will
contribute to carbon offset.
Key Responsibilities Include:
• The Project Assistant will provide technical support towards successful implementation
of the project with major focus on the planning, organizing and execution of project
activities, reporting, documentation, monitoring and partner engagement within the
project area.
The project assistant will combine service delivery with community-level hygiene
education and behavioural change promotion to improve and sustain the delivery of
WASH services, which will address vulnerable populations’ acute water and sanitation
needs.
• Use innovative approaches to promote good personal, home and climate smart
environmental hygiene practices at household level that foster the safe water chain
• Promote non energy intense water treatment option (not boiling) treatment options to
compliment the safe water chain which will contribute to carbon offset.
• Work with the district water offices and the deconcentrated arms of ministry of water
and environment to undertake water samples for mandatory and routine water quality
testing.
• Use systems strengthening approach to achieving sustainable WASH services which
includes strengthening institutional capacity for planning, financing, coordination,
inclusive service delivery and monitoring of WASH for delivery of quality services.
• The project Assistant will be entrusted with ensuring the cost-effective operations of all
the project deliverables and operations towards the fulfilment of strategic objectives of
WaterAid and the beneficiary stakeholders.
To be Successful, you will need the following:
• University degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, Health Sciences, or any other
related field.
• Minimum 4 years’ experience relevant to the duties described above.
• Experience in the field of WASH would be a strong advantage.
• Proven knowledge of and professional experience in project management.
• Planning and organizational skills.
• Strong communication skills—both written and spoken English—and confidence
interacting with a range of different types of stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational skills, proven ability to manage competing demands on time
while still meeting deadlines.
• Very strong attention to detail, able to deliver work of a high standard.
• Highly motivated, able to self-start and proactively seek guidance or direction where
required.
• Team player with a commitment to collaborative working
• Excellent computer skills and ability to work independently and efficiently with the
following office tools: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
