South Sudanese Refugee Association (SSURA) is a registered non-profit community based refugee-led organization incorporated as a company by guarantee by Uganda Registration Service Bureau Reg.#80020002855962 and operating in Arua, Koboko and Yumbe.Founded Koboko-Uganda in September
2016 mindful of the need to protect and promote psychosocial wellbeing, prevent mental health disorders, promote reconciliation and peaceful co-existence among the refugees and host communities, promotion and creation of economic activities for self-reliance, advocacy and awareness on legal protection issue for registered refugees who have moved to urban areas and in the refugee settlements.
ABOUT TIDS JOB
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Driver to support our field operations. The primary purpose of this role is to provide safe and timely transportation of staff, materials, and documents to various project
locations. The Driver will also be responsible for ensuring proper maintenance of the vehicle, adherence to traffic and organizational safety policies, and supporting logistics as needed.

Duties:
- Transport SSURA staff and goods safely – Ensure timely and secure transportation of personnel, equipment, and supplies to various project locations.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks – Perform routine inspections to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition, including brakes, oil, lights, and tires.
- 3. Maintain vehicle cleanliness and order – Keep SSURA vehicle clean, organized, and ready for use at all
- 4. Keep accurate vehicle logs – Record daily mileage, fuel consumption, and all movements as per SSURA transport policy.
- 5. Adhere to road and safety regulations – Follow national traffic rules and
SSURA’s transport procedures to ensure safety during operations.
- 6. Report mechanical issues promptly – Notify the transport officer or supervisor immediately when a fault or damage is
- 7. Ensure security of transported items – Take responsibility for the safety and confidentiality of documents or items being
- 8. Support field logistics when needed – Assist the team in loading/offloading and provide logistical support during field missions.
- Ensure valid documentation – Make sure the driving license, insurance, and vehicle-related documents are up to date and compliant with regulations.
- Act professionally and courteously – Represent SSURA in a respectful and professional manner while interacting with staff, partners, and communities.
I I. Plan and follow the most efficient routes – Use knowledge of routes or GPS systems to minimize travel time and fuel consumption.
- Assist in emergency response logistics – Be available to support transportation needs during urgent field responses or emergency situations.
- Ensure fuel levels are maintained – Monitor fuel usage and ensure timely refuelling to avoid delays or interruptions in operations.
- Assist in minor vehicle repairs or first aid – Handle basic vehicle maintenance and provide first aid support if necessary, while on duty.
- Coordinate with the logistics- Maintain clear communication to align daily transport schedules with program activities.
- Monitor vehicle service schedules -Track and report when vehicles are due for servicing, inspections, or renewal ofroad licenses.
- 17. Respect cultural norms and organizational values – Uphold SSURA’s code of conduct and respect community customs during field assignments.
- Remain flexible with working hours – Be willing to work evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on program needs.
Qualifications, Skills and Technical Experience:
- Minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent.
- Class BE
- Other trainings in logistics will be an added advantage
- Valid driving permit with a good driving record.
- At least 3 years of proven experience as a professional driver, preferably with NGOs or development organizations.
- Good knowledge of road safety regulations and defensive driving techniques.
- Basic mechanical skills to handle minor vehicle repairs and maintenance.
- Fluency in English and local languages spoken in the area of operation.
- Knowledge of GPS and road mapping tools is an added advantage.
- Physically fit and able to work long hours, including weekends or field trips.
- Ability to maintain vehicle logs, fuel records, and service schedules.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a professional attitude.
