Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), an International Non-Profit Organization, has had a partnership formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries since 1996 in Uganda.
SAA is committed to advancing sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient agriculture that empowers smallholder farmers, restores ecosystems, and contributes to national food and nutrition security.
We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Program Coordinator – Regenerative Agriculture based in Kampala office, to support the implementation of sustainable land and soil management practices, with a focus on biochar technology and regenerative agriculture. The personnel will provide technical support to field teams, build capacity of farmers, and collaborate with research and development partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion the promotion, production, and application of biochar using low-cost, community-level kilns and lead training programs in regenerative practices such as composting, mulching, agroforestry, cover cropping, and minimal tillage.
- Build and strengthen collaborations with universities and research partners to conduct on-farm trials, analyze soil health, and document the climate and agronomic impacts of biochar-based interventions.
- Generate and manage field-level databases on farmer adoption, soil productivity, carbon sequestration potential, and GHG emission reductions.
- Lead the capacity development of Extension Workers, Community Association Traders and Commercial Community-Based Facilitators on sustainable soil fertility enhancement and biochar innovations.
- Organize farmer learning platforms, field days, and stakeholder workshops to promote inclusive knowledge sharing and connect local actors to emerging carbon markets.
- Facilitate multi-stakeholder partnerships involving local governments, NGOs, and the private sector to establish sustainable biochar supply chains and service delivery models.
- Collaborate with the Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team to track implementation progress, gather field-level evidence, and contribute to baseline, midline, and impact assessments.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage).
At least 3-5 years’ experience in implementing sustainable agriculture programs.
Experience in biochar technology, regenerative agriculture, or climate-resilient farming is strongly preferred.
