rogram Structure:

PhD students enter through the Indiana BioMedical Gateway (IBMG) program, a common first-year curriculum for all biomedical science doctoral students, followed by specialization in Immunology.

Year 1: Core Curriculum and Lab Rotations

  •  Completion of 22 credit hours through the IBMG program
  • Core coursework and laboratory rotations to help identify a research focus

Year 2: Specialization in Immunology

  • At least 14 credit hours in the major (Immunology) and 12 in a chosen minor
  • Required courses include:

J807: Current Topics in Immunology, G855: Experimental Design and Biostatistics, G505: Responsible Conduct of Research

Research Component:

  • A total of 90 credit hours is required for the Ph.D., with a minimum of 40 credits in research
  • Students conduct advanced research under the mentorship of leading faculty members

Specialization Areas:

Students may focus their research on a range of cutting-edge immunological disciplines, including: Allergy and Asthma, Autoimmunity, Biodefense, Immune Cell Development and Differentiation, Innate Immunity, Host-Pathogen Interactions, Transplantation, Tumour Immunology and Virology

These focus areas are supported by NIH-funded training programs, particularly from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).

Expectations of the PhD fellowship:

The PhD fellow will:

  • Conduct rigorous research, leading to high quality scientific
  • Submit a full research concept and obtain registration in the University with in the required
  • Academic mentorship and supervision will be provided by the research consortium
  • The funding support will cover tuition and a monthly stipend plus other research related costs

Prospective candidates must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree of Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, Nursing and other related fields from an accredited institution, and should be licensed under the governing
  • Have at least a B (3.00 GPA) average in courses taken during the last two years of prior degree studies
  • Willingness to fully commit time and effort to their PhD
  • Candidate should not hold other/concurrent
  • Having publication experience will be an added
