IT OFFICER – KAMPALA OFFICE
The IT Officer is responsible for providing technical assistance, troubleshooting, and maintenance of computer hardware, software, and network systems. The role ensures efficient operation of the organization’s IT infrastructure by responding to user requests, diagnosing and resolving technical issues, installing and maintaining systems, and ensuring data security and proper inventory management. The position supports users across the organization, adapts to a rapidly changing technological environment, and ensures compliance with IT standards, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
– Provide first-line technical support by receiving, evaluating, and prioritizing user requests related to hardware, software, and network issues.
– Install, test, maintain, and troubleshoot computer systems, software packages, and network hardware.
– Perform diagnostic tests and repair or modify hardware at component or board level.
– Maintain IT inventory, including tracking hardware, software, supplies, and ensuring timely replenishment.
– Ensure data security, backup processes, and adherence to IT policies and procedures.
– Escalate incidents or service requests to appropriate IT teams when necessary.
– Support users through phone, email, remote access, and in-person assistance, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
– Document technical work, prepare status reports, and update system logs for maintenance and support activities.
– Train and build the competence of staff in basic computer use, troubleshooting, and IT best practices.
– Stay up to date with evolving technologies and maintain an advanced level of technical knowledge to support IT
operations effectively.
Qualifications and Experience:
– Bachelor’s degree in information technology (IT), computer science, or its equivalent from a recognizable institution.
– Minimum of two years’ experience providing hardware and software support in a user-focused environment, with strong proficiency in Windows/Linux systems, printers, modems, scanners, and a wide range of computer peripherals and related equipment.
– Proven ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot desktop software applications.
– Practical experience supporting and troubleshooting Uganda EMR and ERP systems will be an added advantage.
