Cycling out of Poverty Foundation (CooP-Uganda) supports students, health volunteers, farmers and small entrepreneurs with bicycles to improve access to basic needs and services like education, health care, work and income. We believe that a bicycle makes a difference in this world and is a huge contributor to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Our mission is to improve livelihood of Ugandan families by making bicycles and other mobility aids (such as wheelchairs, bicycle ambulances and cargo bikes) accessible and available for everyone in Uganda.
For our office in Jinja, Uganda, we are recruiting a Project Manager to lead the Cycling out of Poverty social project. The Project manager will report to the General manager and is responsible for project start-up, implementation, and closure, ensuring full delivery in line with approved plans and donor requirements.
Key responsibilities:
1. Project Initiation & Technical Oversight
- Lead project start-up, implementation, and closure with effective planning and informed decision-making.
- Oversee technical aspects of bicycle fleet management, distribution systems, maintenance models, and sustainability mechanisms.
- Ensure integration of cross-cutting priorities: gender equality, social inclusion, environmental safeguards, and safeguarding policies.
- Manage budgets, grants, and procurement processes, ensuring compliance with CooP Uganda policies and donor requirements.
2. Team Leadership & Coordination
- Lead, motivate, and supervise a multi-location project team, promoting collaboration, performance, and knowledge sharing.
- Coordinate activities across districts and partners, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of project results.
3. Monitoring, Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government institutions, schools, health facilities, community actors, and donors.
- Provide regular updates and reports to donors, maintaining transparency and alignment with project deliverables.
- Ensure robust monitoring, evaluation, learning, and reporting, contributing to action research and evidence generation.
The applicant must be/Have:
- Proven experience in managing international agency development projects (such as USAID, ENABEL etc.) with at least 5 years experience.
- Possesses experience in field activities.
- Bachelor’s degree in development studies, project management, or any related field.
- A passion for cycling and conservation; must be able to ride a bicycle.
- Candidate ready to reside in Jinja.
