Role of the Job:
The role of the Manager Operational Risk is to support the Head of Risk in the implementation of the Bank’s Operational Risk Management Framework and ensure that the Operational Risk programmes are operating as intended to minimise losses.
The role holder shall develop risk reports for the Operational Risk Committee and Management Risk Committee detailing the direction and drivers of operational risk for remedial actions to safeguard the interests of Finance Trust Bank stakeholders.
Key Result Areas:

- Perform regular review of Operational policies, processes and risk tolerance limits.
- Conduct second line assurance reviews for Head office units and Branches as per the approved Risk department workplan and present significant risks to the Operational Risk Committee of the Bank.
- Facilitate the review of Risk and Control Self- Assessments, Risk registers and monitor Key Risk Indicators for Operational risk.
- Coordinate the Implementation of the Bank’s Business Continuity Management framework including review of Business Continuity Plans and Business Impact Analysis taking into account emerging risks and evolution of the Bank’s risk profile.
- Lead the team of Risk champions at Head office units and Branches; and ensure that they are facilitated with the requisite tools, knowledge and support to enable them support the Operational Risk unit in Risk management.
- Conduct Fraud Risk Assessments to minimise operational losses and reputational risk arising out of fraud.
- Coordinate Incident, Emergency and Crisis Management to minimise disruptions and perform root cause analysis to avoid operational losses arising from re-occurrence of incidents.
- Support the computation of Operational Risk capital charge by maintaining an up-to-date Operational loss events data base in line with the Bank of Uganda Operational Risk Capital charge guidelines and Basel II guidelines.
- Perform stress testing for Operational Risk as per FTB stress testing guidelines.
- Champion risk awareness through various programs to cultivate a strong risk culture and accountability across the bank.
- Review insurance policies for sufficiency of the Bank’s risk transfer strategy.
- Provide strong leadership to the Operational risk unit staff to develop and nurture them to optimize their potential.
Minimum educational and technical competence requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or any other related discipline from a recognized university.
- Possession of relevant professional qualifications like FRM, CRA, CRMP, ACCA or Master’s degree in a relevant field would be an added advantage.
- A minimum of 5 years banking experience, 3 of which should be in a Supervisory / managerial position in a Risk management function.
- The role holder should possess ability to nurture functioning working relationships across organizational, corporate, and cultural boundaries.
- The role holder should demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills to timely identify and deal with threats before risks materialize.
- Good negotiation skills and ability to positively influence others.
- The job holder should possess strong leadership skills.
