Job Purpose
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide leadership in financial management, strategy, and corporate governance. The CFO will ensure the company operates efficiently, maintains strong internal controls, complies with all statutory and regulatory requirements, and uses its financial resources optimally.
The CFO will also support the Board and senior management in decision-making through accurate financial reporting, analysis, and guidance, while promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical financial practices throughout the organization.
The successful candidate must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a registered member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide strategic financial leadership and advisory support to the Director and Board of Directors.
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational goals and long-term sustainability.
- Prepare, manage, and monitor annual budgets, financial forecasts, and financial plans.
- Oversee preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain proper accounting records in compliance with recognized accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Supervise all accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including tax filing, regulatory reporting, and financial disclosures.
- Establish and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets.
- Identify financial risks and implement mitigation measures to protect the organization.
- Manage cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for operations and strategic investments.
- Oversee banking relationships and financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure effective implementation of audit recommendations.
- Develop and enforce financial policies, procedures, and internal guidelines.
- Provide financial insights to support management in decision-making, business planning, and investment opportunities.
- Supervise and mentor finance staff, promoting professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of financial and organizational information.
- Promote ethical financial practices and compliance with corporate governance standards.
Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA), registered member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration are an added advantage.
- Professional certifications in risk management, corporate governance, or financial management will be beneficial.
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in accounting, finance, or financial management.
- Experience in financial services, insurance, or brokerage operations is an added advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, budgeting, financial planning, and internal controls.
- Proven leadership experience in supervising finance teams and managing organizational financial operations.
