This role requires an exceptional, strategic journalist and content creator with proven expertise generating and coordinating original reporting and non-news content for digital platforms. You are a brilliant creative who can plan, script, storyboard, direct, shoot, cut, package, animate & distribute video, visual and audio content across multiple online platforms while guiding others to do the same. You are a digital native, obsessed with audience data and insights and you know how to cultivate new audiences. You embrace technology, are an expert at digital video/visual production and distribution and know how to leverage SEO to increase engagement. Familiar with content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, CoreMedia), analytics tools (Chartbeat, Smart Octo, Google Analytics) and footprint or impact trackers (Keyhole, SEMRUSH, Hootsuite).

Main Responsibilities:

– Ideation: Generate ideas for videos and visuals that appeal across
platforms for multiple audiences, gathering information, leading research and guiding compilation on the fly throughout your working day.

Storytelling: You craft impactful stories. Develop, and help others to develop compelling narratives through video, photo, visual and audio editing, ensuring that the media package effectively conveys its intended message or story.

Coverage Coordination: Coordinate video, photo, embedded media and other visual content with news reporters, anchors and co-producers to ensure that the visual elements support the narrative and messaging of the story.

Visual Selection: Select the most relevant and compelling videos, photos and embeddable media to complement news and non-news stories and reports. Teach others to do the same.

Quality Control: Ensure final output across all MCL digital properties is fair, balanced, impartial, offers right-to-reply, is current, backed by research, adheres to MCL/NMG editorial policy, meets quality standards in terms of video/visual and audio quality, visual branding and is completely error-free.

Video/ Visual Editing: Edit and assemble footage to create news and non-news stories and segments, ensuring that the content is accurate, informative, and deeply engaging.

Motion Graphics: Create or incorporate motion graphics, animations, and visual effects to enhance the visual appeal of MCL content.

Studio Management: Assign, track & manage MCL studio assets, ensuring production equipment is checked in and out properly, utilized effectively, and scheduled maintenance is carried out as required to ensure production uptime.

Deadlines: Ensure a seamless, streamlined flow of visual, video and audio content to MCL digital properties to set deadlines without fail. The show must run on time, consistently, 24/7.

Legal & Copyright Compliance: Ensure that MCL’s digital content adheres to copyright laws. Obtain or consult to obtain licenses or permissions for any copyrighted material used.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

Academic: Bachelor’s degree in Film or Media Production, Digital Journalism, Visual Arts, Design, Mass Communication, or equivalent from a recognized institution.

Experience: 2-3 years of working experience, preferably in a media or agency environment in progressively responsible content production roles.

Technical: Expertise producing for web & mobile audiences, using interactive formats. As comfortable shooting on a TECNO as you are on a DSLR or a Black Magic Studio.

Software: You are solidly grounded in desktop (Premier Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, Animate, Blender, Audition and others) and mobile (CapCut, Story Studio) composition.

Other Qualifications & Experiences:

Extras: Ability to do basic visualizations using HTML+CSS, or object- oriented languages such as Java, Python & Ruby with scripters (Perl, Bash) would be an added advantage.
