The Environment and Climate Change Advisor will provide specialist knowledge, technical expertise and relationship building skills to define and deliver ACTIVATE project’s ambition to reduce the carbon footprint of Ghana’s ATVET sector and to enhance resilient capacity for partners in relation to environmental and climate  risks. The role will lead strategy development, program development and implementation, and policy change and advocacy work. The role will work closely with other colleagues and functions to mainstream environment responses to programming, measure the results/impacts and contribute to sharing and learning within WUSC Ghana, WUSC Canada, Mastercard Foundation and with external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead and coordinate the integration of climate change and resilience working closely with WUSC Ghana staff, as well as with Mastercard Foundation and other stakeholders to better consider and address environment risks in programming, leading to increased impact
• Provide technical advice to ATVET system actors on green technical and vocational education and skills training
• Support labor market analysis and agricultural market analysis to provide a climate and environment lens to sector selection, partner identification and program planning
• Identify and analyze capacity gaps in TVET services to improve curriculum design, training materials, and instructional methodologies with environmental and climate considerations
• With support from the Institutional Capacity Building Specialist, design interventions to incentivize industry to develop adaptation solutions and implement actions to respond to current and future climate change impacts
• Contribute to specific climate-related policy and advocacy initiatives, as well as supporting colleagues to consider the environment in WUSC Ghana advocacy work. Key areas of work are likely to include adaptation, mitigation, loss and damage, climate finance, biodiversity conservation, nature-based solutions, and natural resource management
• Plan, implement, and track the results of WUSC Ghana’s internal workplace greening initiatives, including a strategic KPI
• Educate, inspire and empower employees on practical ways to reduce environmental impact, work to identify and implement specific solutions to help WUSC Ghana operate in a more environmentally sustainable fashion, and to increase the resilience of our programmatic work in the face of future climate change-related effects

QUALIFICATIONS

• A Degree in Environmental Science or Management, Environmental Studies, agriculture, International Development Studies, or equivalent work experience
• The Environment and Climate Change Advisor must be passionate about the environment, resilience, the interlinkages between gender and climate justice, and localized solutions and southern collective voices and actions on climate justice issues
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal skills in English
• At least 5 years of direct experience on the environment, climate change adaptation and mitigation in the context of food security, agriculture, livelihoods, health, and/or women’s economic empowerment
• Direct experience of multi-stakeholder processes and multi-stakeholder collaboration
• Experience in the development and/or adaptation and/or implementation of frameworks, tools and approaches that aid others adopt good practices for the environment
• Experience of supporting and training others directly and remotely, with proven experience using formal and informal adult education methods
• Experience in applying gender lens and tools in resilience programming
• Demonstrated ability to conduct environmental analyses and strategies
• Advanced MS Office skills
• Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
