Corruption Watch (CW) is a South African non-profit organisation with a ten-year track record and an accredited chapter of Transparency International. CW’s primary objective is to combat corruption which it does through various strategic initiatives.

Corruption Watch seeks to fill the position of a Senior Forensic Investigator to lead our counter-corruption investigations, utilising their skills and expertise to uncover and analyse evidence of corrupt practices. The incumbent will work in a team including a Junior Forensic Investigator, Data Analyst and a Project Lead in conducting investigations.

Areas of Responsibilities:

Together with the team, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee the intake of complaints of corruption received from the public and whistleblowers.
  • Help implement a new system of receiving corruption complaints including pre-investigations processes.
  • Conduct strategic forensic investigations into alleged corrupt activities within the private and public sector; including matters involving illicit financial flows, money laundering and cross-border corruption.
  • Identifying potential lines of enquiry, appropriately planning and scoping investigations.
  • Utilise appropriate methodologies and tools.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations by meticulously planning, executing fact-finding processes, collecting information and evidence, and skilfully analysing and linking findings to corrupt activities.
  • Recognize recurring patterns or trends and provide strategic recommendations for the implementation of preventive measures and the mitigation of risk areas.
  • Collect, analyse and preserve electronic and physical evidence in adherence to legal standards and protocols.
  • Engaging specialist investigators or subject-matter experts where necessary.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies and legal experts in building strong cases of corruption against individuals and entities.
  • Prepare detailed investigative reports concerning irregularities, regulatory violations, and criminal activities, and offer recommendations for subsequent actions.
  • Draft submissions for and collaborate with appropriate Organs of State and Prosecuting Authorities.
  • Stay abreast of latest developments in forensic investigation techniques, technologies, and legal frameworks related to corruption.

Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forensic Science or related field. Advanced degree will be an added advantage.
  • Professional certifications in forensic investigation or related areas (Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Forensic Accountant).
  • 10 years proven experience in private and public forensic investigations, with a focus on corruption cases.
  • Thorough knowledge of investigative methodology and techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of illicit financial flows, money laundering and cross-border corruption.
  • Strong knowledge of forensic tools, techniques and methodologies.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the statutory framework, regulations, and legal principles relevant to the counter-corruption movement.
  • Familiarity with legal procedures and requirements related to evidence collection and presentation.
  • Driven self-starter.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (in English).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • High ethical standards and commitment to executing mandate of Corruption Watch.
