Job description

Contracts Manager oversees the planning and delivery of construction projects. He/she will ensure that work is being executed in accordance with schedule and ensure that it is completed on time and within budget; organize logistics, delegate work and keep track of spending. As a Contracts Manager, he/she will liaise with clients and construction professionals to arrange schedules and direct project activities.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and supervising construction projects.

  • Collaborate with site agent/manager, quantity surveyor, foremen electrical and landscape subcontractors etc. to determine the project resources requirements

  • Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach profitable agreements

  • Determine needed resources i.e., manpower, equipment and materials from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations

  • Plan construction operations & schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines are met

  • Acquire equipment and material and monitor stocks to timely handle inadequacies

  • Hire sub-contractors and other staff and allocate responsibilities

  • Supervise the work of laborers, machine operators, etc. and give them guidance when needed

  • Developing procurement plans and timely management of purchasing of materials

  • Ensure that work is being done according to contract specifications

  • Prepare project progress reports, works programme and materials schedule

  • Ensure timely submission of all contractual documentation such as lab test results, revised works programme to the client

  • Attend site and management meetings

  • Evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports

Qualification, Experience and Competencies

  • Holder of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture or Quantity Surveying from a recognized institution

  • Must a registered member of a relevant professional body

  • MinimumĀ of 5 years working experience in construction industry

  • Experience is supervising building projects is essential

  • In-depth understanding of construction procedures and material and project management principles

  • Familiarity with quality and health and safety standards

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills

  • Proficient with MS Office, MS Project and Drafting software

  • Exceptional communication skills with the team and clients

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Design compliance standards

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specification

  • Able to perform and be proficient with geometrical and mathematical calculations

  • Ability to take decisions and demonstrate accountability and integrity.

  • Ability to negotiate, influence and persuade stakeholders in projects to achieve positive
