As a Transport Officer, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the transportation of materials, equipment, and personnel to and from sites. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of logistics, maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and optimizing transportation efficiency.
Primary Responsibilities
Logistics Coordination:
• Plan and coordinate the transportation of materials, equipment, and personnel to project sites.
• Collaborate with the Head of Administration, site managers, site supervisors, and other relevant stakeholders to determine transportation needs.
Fleet Management:
• Coordinate and manage a fleet of vehicles, including trucks and specialized construction equipment.
• Oversee the maintenance and operation of the company’s vehicle fleet.
• Schedule regular maintenance checks for all vehicles to ensure they are in good working condition.
Regulatory Compliance:
• Stay informed about and ensure compliance with local (Newmont) and state transportation regulations.
• Obtain and renew necessary permits and licences for all (both generalized or specialized) transportation as required.
Safety and Risk Management:
• Implement and enforce safety protocols for transportation activities.
• Conduct regular safety training for drivers and other transportation personnel.
• Investigate and report any accidents or incidents involving company vehicles.
Route Planning and Optimization:
• Plan and optimize transportation routes to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of materials and equipment.
• Consider factors such as traffic conditions, project timelines, and vehicle capacity.
• Utilize GPS and other route planning tools to optimize transportation routes.
Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate records of transportation activities, including fuel usage, vehicle maintenance, and driver movement logs.
• Prepare regular reports on transportation efficiency, costs, and any incidents.
Budget Management:
• Work with the finance department to develop and manage the transportation budget.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or efficiency.
Communication:
• Liaise with the site managers, suppliers, and other drivers to communicate delivery schedules, delays, and any transportation-related issues.
Qualification Required & Experience
• Candidate must possess a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in logistics, transportation management, or a related field.
• Must have a minimum of five (5) years proven experience in a transportation or logistics role, preferably in the construction or mining industry.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in transportation is required.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Familiarity with transportation management software and GPS systems.
• Must possess a Valid Driver’s License C.
