As a Health and Safety Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of our employees and creating a safe working environment. You will also be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing health and safety policies and programs to mitigate risks and comply with relevant regulations.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and Implement Safety Policies:
• Create and update comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures tailored to the construction industry.
• Ensure that all policies align with the local (Newmont) and state regulations.
Training and Education:
• Conduct regular safety training sessions for employees, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
• Stay current on industry best practices and communicate relevant information to the team.
Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
• Conduct regular risk assessments on sites and implement measures to mitigate identified risks.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, providing detailed reports and recommendations for prevention.
Regulatory Compliance:
• Stay informed about changes in health and safety legislation and regulations.
• Ensure the company’s compliance with all relevant safety standards.
Site Inspections:
• Conduct regular inspections of sites to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
• Collaborate with project lead to address safety concerns promptly.
Emergency Response Planning:
• Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and first aid protocols.
• Conduct regular drills to test the effectiveness of emergency plans.
Safety Culture Promotion:
• Foster a strong safety culture by promoting awareness and accountability at all levels of the organization.
• Encourage reporting of safety concerns and near misses.
Reporting and Documentation:
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety-related activities, including training, inspections, and incidents.
• Prepare and submit regular reports on health and safety performance to management.
Qualification Required & Experience
• Candidate must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Proven experience in a Health and Safety role within the construction or mining industry.
• Must be a Mincom Certified Senior Safety Officer.
• Knowledge of local and state mining safety regulations.
• Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, or equivalent are preferred.
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
• Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Must possess a Valid Driver’s LicenseC and above with five (5) years’ experience in manual vehicle driving.
