Key Responsibilities:
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Specialist works to provide technical leadership and management in design, planning and implementation of gender and social inclusive programming and advocacy. The role shall coordinate, network and collaborate with relevant stakeholders on gender and social inclusion, and documentation of promising practices around GESI at the local and national level.
The Gender and Social Inclusion (GESI) Specialist will ensure that programmatic approaches for activities under the Transforming Household Resilience in Vulnerable Environments (THRIVE) project adequately, effectively, and responsibly reflect the interests of women and other vulnerable populations as an integral part of each activity design, in a culturally sensitive and results-oriented manner. It is anticipated that the GESI Specialist will also dedicate at least 20 percent level of effort on the other GESI-related projects within the NO, and provide GESI-responsive DM&E (design, monitoring and evaluation) support and coordination for results.
The GESI Specialist will be responsible for the following essential duties:
Program Planning
- Provide overall Technical Support in GESI integration in programming and advocacy.
- Provide technical expertise to grant staff and stakeholders, including needs assessments, program design, start-up, phase-in, phase-out, communications, reporting, monitoring and evaluation activities and ad-hoc needs
Capacity Building
- Provide capacity building support for GESI integration in programming, advocacy and organizational processes.
Networking and Collaboration
- Networking and Partnering with relevant stakeholders
Design Monitoring and Evaluation(DM&E)
- Support the Design, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting of GESI integration in Programming
- Review GESI DM&E tools and support the roll-out and implementation of the GESI DM&E toolkit.
- Analyse GESI-related trends and develop strategies to address them in collaboration with key stakeholders and national technical specialists
Policy influencing
- Encourage and facilitate the documentation of best practices and lessons learned, directed toward multiple audiences, to influence policy formation, develop capacity and foster professionalism
- Identifying policy gaps and inconsistencies in the polices and providing recommendations
Fundraising and programme development
- Support GAM in fundraising for GESI
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in gender studies, social science, economic or international development
- Strong communication skills, particularly advanced writing skills
- Ability to build relationships cross-culturally.
- Ability to multi-task
- Strong workshop facilitation skills
- Strong networking skills
- At least 5 years of experience in gender and social inclusion programming.
- Knowledge and experience of implementing participatory gender and social inclusion methodologies.
- Experience in developing policies and strategies.
- Previous experience in gender and social inclusion programming in government and/or NGO Ability to network and collaborate with other stakeholders
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Ability to provide leadership and take responsibility for incorporating gender and social inclusion perspectives into programming.
- Excellent facilitation skills and experience in developing training modules.
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E).
- Post graduate qualification in gender and/or social inclusion.
- Excellent communication and team-working skills, with the ability to build good relations, both within WV and externally.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and good computer skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment with respect for diversity.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
Complete Travel and/or Work Environment statements if applicable.
- The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 40% of the time.
