Jhpiego, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University is implementing The Challenge Initiative (TCI), a project funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) through The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health (GI), Department of Population, Family & Reproductive Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Summary

Reporting to the Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Research Manager of the MCGL Project, the Qualitative RAs will be responsible for data collection note taking during the Key Informant Interviews (KIIS) and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) sessions, and transcription of audio files in readiness for analysis. They will be engaged for approximately 30 days.

The key responsibilities will include:

  • Participate in a data collectors training and complete a mandatory online course on the ethical conduct of research involving human subjects
  • Assist in Administering a questionnaire to study subjects and audio record the interview
  • Maintain a clean enrollment register for the survey
  • Record and take comprehensive hand-written notes during the interviews ( KIIs and FGDs)
  • Conduct transcription and translation of audio recorded interviews
  • Enter collected data on paper form into a pre-determined data management software
  • Perform other relevant duties that will be assigned by the supervisors while on an existing contract

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma in social sciences or community health, plus 5 years of relevant work experience in undertaking qualitative research assignments, or Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or community health plus 3 years of relevant work
    experience in undertaking qualitative research assignments
  • Experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection
  • Experience in transcribing media (audio or video) files will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge and experience in use of electronic data collection software and devices is an added advantage
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to follow study-specific procedures and guidelines reliably
  • Good verbal, interpersonal, written communication skills and fluency in English, Swahili and a vernacular language
  • Should be people-oriented, non-judgmental and non-moralizing
  • Must be fully available for the training and during the entire data collection period
  • Residing within the study counties and willingness to work in the county
