Duties and Responsibilities
Under supervision of Chief Joint Mission Analysis Centre (JMAC), the consultant will perform the following:
- Review available and existing knowledge and baseline data.
- Map and assess the South Sudanese extractive formal and informal economic system; identify strengths and weaknesses in relations to potential risks for the population of South Sudan.
- Prepare and submit a comprehensive report that includes all consultancy findings. The report must include the following sections: context, assessment, methodology and approach, objectives, results, content aspects/scope of work, overall approach, stakeholders’ description, and scoping and duration.
- Perform other tasks as required.
- Deliver a weekly/regular progress report to Chief JMAC.
Eligibility Criteria
Qualifications/ Special Skills:
- An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in social and economic science, political science, conflict and peace studies or a related field is required.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in analysis/research in the field of economy and finance, political affairs, information analysis, or related field is required.
- Extensive field experience, especially in conflict and/or post-conflict settings is required.
- Prior experience in South Sudan and/or East African and/or IGAD region, especially from relevant work or research related to the natural resources sector of South Sudan is desirable.
- Demonstrable ability to engage with sensitive issues, strategic foresight, and political insight in situations involving multiple actors and stakeholders is desirable.
Languages:
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required.
