Job description

Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of study design and goals, and ensure that the study is conducted in compliance with study protocols and other regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mobilize eligible participants for the interviews and FGDs
  • Work closely with the study coordinators to prepare weekly interview and FGD schedules
  • Conduct qualitative interviews among participants
  • Assist in transcription and translation of the collected data
  • Provide regular progress reports to the study coordinators
  • Ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities
  • Participate in regular research team meetings
  • Respond to questions about the study posed by participants and any other relevant persons
  • Other duties as assigned by the Study Coordinator

Vacancy Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public health or Social-Science-related field.
  • Knowledge in facility and community entry strategies
  • Knowledge in interviewing health workers and manager
  • Knowledge in cleaning and coding, developing codebooks
  • Knowledge working with Dedoose software
  • Knowledge in tobacco cessation projects
  • Commitment to integrity and high-quality performance
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in both English and Swahili
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Keen and attentive to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures
  • Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Flexibility to travel and interview participants at a time and place of their convenience
