Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in medical laboratory science, biological sciences or related field
Duties and responsibilities
- Explain specimen collection procedures to patients and collect samples according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Preparation of Laboratory reagents and stains according to the SOPs.
- Keep the laboratory environment safe and secure for the staff and other laboratory users.
- Perform quality control and calibrate equipment if necessary
- Process and test laboratory specimens, interpret results and ensure quality of laboratory results according to SOPs using a range of automated equipment and manual techniques, in a timely manner.
- Carry out routine maintenance on equipment and report unresolved performance issues to the laboratory team leader in a timely manner.
- Track and maintain laboratory reagents, chemicals and consumable stock levels
- Evaluates test results, makes recommendations and communicates critical test results
- Participate in the implementation of laboratory quality management systems
- Any other duties assigned by the supervisor
