- Ooversee the integration of vaccine-preventable disease activities, covering routine immunization, new vaccines, polio eradication, COVID-19, and others
- Coordinate the technical support to develop and reinforce national surveillance for vaccine-preventable diseases, covering the planning, monitoring, and reporting against performance indicators.
- Guide the transition of assets for polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases to benefit each other, and the wider public health systemsOversee the strengthening of integrated polio, measles, and rubella laboratory systems for surveillance, detection, and control following national and regional strategic goals.
- Support the conduct of risk assessments, investigations, and recovery from VPD outbreaks.
- Work with the Emergency Response Team to harmonize the response to vaccine-preventable disease outbreaks, focusing on ensuring effective mass immunization activities are effectively conducted
- Provide regular information and data on the progress of the polio eradication initiative and other vaccine-preventable diseases activities including polio surveillance performance and surveillance data on measles, neonatal tetanus, COVID-19, yellow fever, and new vaccines in the country; the annual burden of vaccine-preventable diseases in the country; and performance of vaccine-preventable disease programs
- Harmonize and lead the capacity building for research evidence generation and use for VPDs
- Support the conduct of risk assessments, investigations, and recovery from VPD outbreaks.
- Support resource mobilization, partnerships, and collaboration amongst stakeholders supporting VPD activities.
- Lead the immunization and VPD surveillance program planning, management, and reporting
- Any other duties assigned by the WHO representative12. Perform any other activities as assigned by the Head of Country Office and Senior Management
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: Master’s level in a Health-related science (medicine or public health) or human biology with specialization on immunization- or vaccine relevant areas
Desirable: Post-graduate training in public health
Experience
Essential: At least seven (07) years of progressively responsible professional experience in the field of immunization and vaccine development programs. Within this experience demonstrated professional experience at the international level providing support to Member States and evaluating vaccine-preventable diseases and immunization programmes
Desirable: Work experience within international organizations or UN systems is an asset. Firsthand working experience in a developing nation
