Job description

CSL has and continues to invest significantly in the protected area management of the South
Luangwa ecosystem. In recent years, the importance of strong external communications has
become increasingly clear and we no longer have the existing capacity to manage this at a high
enough level. We are therefore recruiting for a new role within the CSL team, the Communications
Coordinator. This role will oversee the delivery of high quality and timely communications across
all CSL’s external platforms, oversee ad-hoc media coverage opportunities and support the
existing Fundraising & Communications Manager and CEO with fundraising activities.
Key Responsibilities
1) To oversee all CSL’s external communications:
o Lead on social media content development and scheduling
o Lead on quarterly newsletter content development and scheduling
o Lead on liaising with local and international photographers to secure fresh and relevant content for external communications and donor reporting
o Lead on managing and updating the CSL photo database
o Lead on liaising with media journalists and/or partner organisations regarding press opportunities
o Lead on the design and production of relevant marketing materials using Canva
o Lead on coordinating annual online fundraising campaigns, such as Wildlife Ranger Challenge
o Support on website updates using Squarespace
o Support on content development for CSL’s Annual Report
2) To support CSL’s fundraising activities:
o Lead on managing the CSL donor database and MailChimp mailing list
o Lead on building donor visit itinerary coordination and co-hosting local and international donors and prospective donors
o Support on prospective donor research
o Support on donor reporting and communications
3) Additional responsibilities:
o Initiate improvements in existing systems and strategies
o Develop comprehensive guidance documentation for future additional staff members
o Support management with the organising and administration for the annual
Conservation Fun Run
Capabilities, competencies, and experience required
• A minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in environment, conservation, social science,
communications or related field; or equivalent experience
• Demonstrable experience in broad communications, including social media
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in the conservation and/or NGO sector in
Zambia
• Proven skill in public presentations and donor relations
• Proven skills in writing for varied audiences
• Advanced Computer literacy with experience in Microsoft office, Google docs,
Squarespace and Canva
• Fluent in English
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities, including excellent writing,
verbal and listening skills
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Able to work as part of a team
• Strong personal integrity and dependability
• Strong organisational skills
• Willingness to learn
• Willingness and ability to spend time in the field, in remote areas
• Passion for wildlife conservation
Terms & benefits
A competitive salary based on experience will be offered, with benefits on an annual contract
basis to be negotiated, with opportunity of increment according to performance. Please note
this is a full-time role.
