Job description

The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:

  • Planning and conducting department inspections, internal audits according to the audit procedure
  • Report Environment Near Misses
  • Monitor compliance to environmental license/permit conditions
  • Physically check the status of mobile and installed Environmental equipment
  • Environmental incident investigation (CAT 1 and 2)
  • Ensure biodiversity monitoring is carried out twice a year and results reported to all Stakeholders
  • Developing and implementing environmental policies, procedures, Safe work Procedures and work instructions
  • Participate in the implementation of ISO 14001 in assigned departments
  • Sample, compile, and maintain weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual reports and submit them to relevant authorities to maintain environmental database and compliance with environmental license/permit conditions and other agreements with external bodies
  • Identify areas of operations where serious pollution situations exist and recommend appropriate action aimed at abating resultant environmental impacts
  • Conduct environmental performance audits to evaluate environmental performance of the mine against its environmental targets in line with set objectives and targets
  • Investigate the root cause(s) of all identified environmental non-conformities and develop appropriate actions their closure

To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering or equivalent
  • Two years of broad industrial experience in developing and implementing an EMS in large organisation preferably in a mining industry
  • Team management skills; Good interpersonal skills, Influencing & communication skills, Planning, coordination and controlling skills

The successful candidate must be result oriented and have the ability to work with own initiative, ability to understand scope of work, paying particular attention to company policies and corporate objectives.
