The Responsibilities of this role will include but not limited to the following:
- Ensure adequate preparation of theatres before operations start, taking into consideration the day’s list, emergencies and surgeon’s preferences.
- Ensure that theatre equipment is in good working condition and report faulty equipment to the Nursing Officer.
- Maintain high standards of sterility in processing of surgical instruments through autoclaving.
- Ensure adequate preparation of the patient before the operation is done.
- Providing skilled assistance to the anaesthetist pre-operatively.
- Preventing cross infection by practicing aseptic techniques on all the patients pre-operatively.
- Ensuring safety and welfare of the patients.
- Being part of the scrub up team as a scrub nurse and provide skilled assistance during operation.
- Observing swab, instruments and needle count policy.
- Liaising with other departments to ensure smooth flow of operating theatre activities.
- Controlling the use of medical and surgical stocks.
- Responsible for the development of subordinates and identification of their training needs with a view to building capacity.
To be considered for this position, the candidate should meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Diploma in Registered Nursing.
- Advanced Diploma in Theatre Nursing and should be registered as Theatre Nurse.
- Fully registered with Nurses and Midwifery Council of Zambia.
- Minimum 3 years in general nursing and theatre nurse
The successful candidate must be result oriented and have the ability to work with own initiative, ability to understand scope of work, paying particular attention to Company policies and corporate objectives.
