Location: Hangha (Kenema District) – MSF Hospital

Main responsibilities of the position

Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning his/her field of action (CHO) and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the deployment of the plan of action. Organize and coordinate the activities of the CHOs under his/her supervision (administratively and clinically), evaluate their performance and define their training needs in close collaboration with the respective MD. Guarantee a functioning communication between the clinical team, the nursing team and the respective MDs to provide quality medical care, and to address the needs of the beneficiaries.

Accountabilities

Implementing diagnosis, prescription and prevention procedures that fall under the scope of his/her competencies applying medical knowledge, asking appropriate questions to patients and following protocols in force as well as using laboratory services when necessary, in order to ensure a correct implementation of the medical treatments and to refer patients when appropriate.

  • Ensuring the implementation and standardization of MSF clinical policies, tools, and hygiene protocols in order to minimize clinical risks and to guarantee the quality of patient care management. Promotion and maintenance of confidentiality at all times regarding all patient cases and records.
  • Recording in the individual patient’s cards, all performed medical activities (clinical examination and findings, drugs and doses prescribed, lab results, vaccination status, epidemiological activity, etc.) keeping data traceability in order to ensure patients treatment continuity.
  • Ensure the planning and supervision of the HR requirements of the CHO team in collaboration with his/her line manager (e.g. size, coverage, evaluations, CME, communication).
  • Ensuring evidence-based medical knowledge is applied. Promoting motivation, commitment and active participation in improving clinical capabilities of each team member under his/her supervision.
  • Knowing and implementing Patient Therapeutic Education (PTE): i.e. keeping contact with all patients and caretakers, providing them information regarding their health state and responding to their questions.
  • Actively promote the appropriate application of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol.
  • Ensure that all staff using medical devices is qualified and trained. Ensure cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to MSF protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • Participating in data collection and reporting when required
  • In close coordination with the HR department, planning and supervising the associated processes (training, evaluation, development and communication) of the CHO staff of the project in order to improve staff capabilities and ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required.
  • Reporting to his/her line manager on any relevant information linked to CHO activities and participating in monthly reports

Required Criteria;

Education: Essential Higher National Diploma in Community Health

Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a Community Health Officer Former supervisory experience is preferred.

Knowledge: Education on management is an asset. Computer literacy (word, excel and internet) is an asset
