Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the youth’s daily scheduled routines are adhered to
  • Displaying warmth, empathy, affection, non-judgemental, understanding attitude
  • Supervise the preparation and dishing up of meals and ensure each youth receives a plate of nutritious food timeously
  • Take responsibility for obtaining and administering all prescribed medication as per the prescription of each youth
  • Conduct planned home visits for each youth within your team regularly, home visits must be linked to the IDP
  • Submit a written report on each visit to the Social worker within 4 days
  • Discipline of the youth is handled sensitively and appropriately as required by the Homestead policies and relevant Children’s Act
  • Identify and manage each youth’s emotional needs holistically and sensitively eg: attachment issues, ADHD
  • Development programming and reporting – Compile a monthly plan for the implementation of programs for the youth within your team, incorporating all your shifts including weekends and submit to the Supervisor
  • Ensure planned activities/programs are: developmental, recreational, age-appropriate and needs-based to comply with Regulations 75 of the Children’s Act
  • Housekeeping – Responsible for the keys when on duty – Ensure the roster for the youth to assist with cleaning duties are being implemented and followed
  • Record any incidents in the incident report book, incidents must be recorded immediately or prior to the end of the shift and must be true and accurate
  • To continually seek out and attend training courses in order to ensure ongoing skills development
  • Ensure rules are followed and consequences are implemented consistently
  • Run and facilitate rewards programe
  • Qualifications and Requirements

    • Registered Aux CYCW or CYCW (valid proof of up-to-date SACSSP registration)
    • Proficient in Afrikaans and English
    • Experience in the childcare field
    • Good people skills and communication
    • Understanding of the respective Acts, Policies & procedures and legislation – committed and follow through
    • Displaying warmth, empathy, affection, non-judgemental, understanding attitude
    • Willingness to complete a pre-employment polygraph examination as well as to undergo in-depth reference and character checks
    • Confirm that your name does not appear on the Child Protection register and there is no reason why you cannot work with children
    • Emotional intelligence, insight into behaviour management, good organizing and administrative skills
    • Basic computer skills or willingness to attend courses to learn
    • Drivers license preferred
