Role
In your role as business model innovation manager, you will provide business advisory to companies, ranging from small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s) to multinationals, and social enterprises so they can enhance their commercial viability and social impact. These can be early-stage or growth-stage companies, who are developing products and services targeted at low-income populations in Africa and Asia.
Examples of companies you may advise:
Dairy technology company looking to streamline their retail model so they can reach more smallholder farmers.
Health tech platform making quality pharma and healthcare services accessible in rural areas
Telecommunication company looking to expand reach in rural areas through women micro-retailers.
You will manage projects with our clients in which we advise companies, share your knowledge with our internal team, and support the development of new projects and partnerships.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who meets most of the following qualifications:
- Bachelor or (preferably) Masters degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Sustainable Innovation, Product Design or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years professional experience focused on business modeling, (digital) innovation, marketing and distribution in emerging markets.
- 3+ years experience as founder or senior team member of a startup or scale-up, experience as a management consultant, pre-investment consultant or experience in delivery of acceleration or innovation programs.
- Experience in supporting SMEs in investment readiness.
- Knowledge and first-hand experience with the challenges and opportunities of inclusive business at the Base of the Pyramid (BoP), preferably in food & agriculture and renewable energy.
- Experience in advising and/or implementing gender inclusive strategies, is a plus.
- Empathy with the BoP as value seeking consumers and motivated entrepreneurs (not as beneficiaries) and a strong curiosity to better understand low-income markets.
- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders; government, development players, businesses, micro-entrepreneurs.

You will be based out of Nairobi, Kenya, Abuja, Nigeria or Utrecht, Netherlands. You must have a work permit in the respective country.
