Your duties will include but not limited to the following:

• Lead, manage and develop the Hydrogeology team.
• Improve the understanding and management of ground and surface water at Lumwana Mine.
• Lead and oversee the collection of hydrological and hydrogeological data.
•  Analyse and interpret geological, hydrological, and hydrogeological data to support mine water management planning.
• Evaluate and integrate geological, hydrological, and environmental data to develop accurate conceptual site and numerical groundwater models of the mine’s open pits.
• Provide hydrological input for design of pit dewatering infrastructure including expected inflows of groundwater and rainfall runoff.
• Provide appropriate advice and design analysis for all hydrological and hydrogeological issues related to the open pits, waste rock dumps, stockpiles, sumps, haul roads and drainage channels.
• Ensure that hydrological and hydrogeological advice and design recommendations provided in relation to the open pits, dumps, stockpiles, sumps, haul roads and drainage channels is understood and executed correctly in the field.
• Design and manage the pit slope pore pressure monitoring program and slope depressurisation works.
• Design and manage the pit dewatering borehole drilling and installation programs
• Supervise hydrogeology projects including piezometer installations, dewatering boreholes etc
• Ensure that the hydrogeological properties and behavior of the materials comprising the pit slopes and dumps are properly understood and incorporated into design and analysis.
• Develop and maintain the water management plan.
• Check that hydrological parameters used in design are appropriate and correct.
• Provide input relating to ground/surface water control management into short, medium and long-term planning.
• Ensure all works carried out comply with safety, quality and design requirements
• Appropriately plan operational and capital budget requirements for works and equipment related to water management.
• Check compliance to procedures and safe work practices in the field through the Planned Task Observation (PTO), and Task Observation Process for Supervisor (TOPS) systems.
• Ensure all work activities comply with Zambian regulatory requirements and Barrick corporate standards.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following essential requirements:

• Grade 12 Certificate
• BSc Engineering Geology/Hydrogeology/Geology
• Experience (8 years) Hydrogeology work
• Master’s degree in Hydrogeology will be advantageous
• Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia
• At least 5 years’ experience on open pit mine
• Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
• Good computer skills
• Zambian Driver’s license.
