The Dean plays a pivotal role in the University’s Senior Management structure,
providing strategic leadership, coordinating the governance and overall management
of the Faculty’s functions. The successful candidate will be appointed on a four (4)
year full-time contract which can be renewable subject to good performance.
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the Dean is responsible for:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
▪ Providing academic leadership in teaching and learning, research, innovation
and industrialisation.
▪ Positioning the Faculty within the National Higher Education Policy in line
with Education 5.0 by promoting excellence in teaching, research, community
service, innovation and industrialisation.
▪ Planning and developing sound and innovative academic programmes that
address the nation’s human capital development initiative and are relevant
to industry.
▪ Overseeing the review of existing academic programmes in accordance with
the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) provisions and
University regulations.
▪ Contributing towards the formulation, development, implementation and
evaluation of academic and administrative policies.
▪ Quality assurance of all Faculty programmes and activities.
▪ Budgetary planning, control and allocation of income and funding to Academic
Departments in line with the University financial regulations.
▪ Management of human resources activities, recruitment and selection, staff
development and performance management in liaison with the Human
Resources Department.
▪ Mobilising resources for the Faculty.
▪ Management of the Faculty’s infrastructure and assets with the support of
service Departments.

▪ Developing collaborations and strategic partnerships with Faculty Alumni,
Institutions, Corporations and Government Agencies in liaison with University
Administration.
▪ Developing a sense of community for the Faculty, students and staff.
▪ Advising the Vice Chancellor and Senate on academic and administrative
issues relating to the Faculty.
▪ Undertaking other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
▪ An earned PhD qualification in an Agricultural Science related discipline from
a reputable University.
▪ Be appointed at the level of at least Senior Lecturer.
▪ Have a proven track record in academic and administrative leadership and the
ability to give sound academic direction to the Faculty.
▪ Have evidence of sound research and be published in a related academic
discipline.
▪ Track record of resource mobilisation for research, innovation and
industrialisation.
▪ Experience at the level of Department Chairperson is an added advantage.
