The Packaging Operator will be responsible for operating packaging machinery and equipment for primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging processes. This role requires a strong understanding of pharmaceutical packaging standards, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and the ability to ensure product quality and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Duties:
- Set up, operate, and monitor packaging machinery to ensure the accurate and efficient packaging of biopharmaceutical products.
- Adjust equipment settings to accommodate different product types, sizes, and packaging requirements.
- Conduct inspections of packaged products to ensure they meet quality standards, including correct labeling, sealing, and packaging integrity.
- Perform in-process quality checks to ensure products are correctly packaged according to specifications (e.g., correct weight, count, or fill levels).
- Identify and report any defects, discrepancies, or non-conforming products to the supervisor or quality assurance team.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and other regulatory requirements throughout the packaging process.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety protocols, hygiene standards, and contamination control measures.
- Accurately document packaging operations, including batch records, equipment logs, and production data.
- Ensure that all records are maintained in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Manage the inventory of packaging materials, including receiving, storing, and staging materials for use in the packaging process.
- Ensure that materials are handled safely and efficiently, minimizing waste, and preventing contamination.
- Perform routine maintenance on packaging equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate with maintenance staff to resolve more complex issues.
- Work closely with production, quality control, and warehouse teams to ensure seamless coordination of packaging activities.
- Communicate effectively with team members to address any issues that may arise during packaging operations.
- Inspect packaging for stability, ensuring that pallets or large containers are properly stacked, labeled, and ready for distribution.
- Monitor the usage of packaging materials and assist in inventory management to ensure that adequate supplies are available for continuous production.
- Report any shortages or excesses of packaging materials to the supervisor.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on new packaging techniques, equipment, and regulatory changes.
- Assist in training new packaging operators or temporary staff as needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve packaging efficiency, product quality, and safety in the packaging process.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at optimizing packaging operations and reducing costs.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Minimum:
Preferred: Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (A-Level) in sciences. A technical certificate in manufacturing, packaging, or mechanical skills is preferred. A diploma in industrial technology or manufacturing is an added advantage.

Experience:
Basic Experience:
1-2 years of experience in packaging or manufacturing roles, preferably in a pharmaceutical, or similar regulated environment.
Preferred Experience:
Previous experience with packaging machinery and quality control processes is advantageous,
experience in GMP-compliant facilities or roles involving regulatory standards is highly desirable.
Training and Certification:
On-the-job training is provided; however, prior exposure to pharmaceutical packaging or technical roles in manufacturing can be beneficial.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of operating and maintaining diverse types of packaging machinery, including fillers, sealers, and labeling machines, Quality Control, Regulatory Compliance, Material Handling, Documentation, Safety Procedures Troubleshooting.
Evaluations: (This may be tested)
