Responsibilities

Methodology: Using a provided assessment tool, the candidate will review existing documents, conduct key informant interviews, and assess ongoing Malaria activities.

Deliverables: Based on their findings, the consultant will develop a comprehensive report that includes a summary of findings, recommendations, and action plans for improving the implementation of malaria diagnostics and case management in Ethiopia.

Timeline:

  • Phase I – Information gathering and stakeholder engagements: Due October 31, 2024
  • Phase II – Report of findings and action planning: Due November 30, 2024

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher in public health, health informatics, monitoring and evaluation, demography, statistics, sociology, or a related field.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience research and related activities and delivering assessments

Technical Expertise

Malaria Epidemiology and Control: A deep understanding of malaria transmission, prevention, and control strategies in Ethiopia

Clinical Management of Malaria: Knowledge of the latest guidelines (MOH, PMI, etc) for diagnosing and treating malaria cases, including severe malaria.

Diagnostic Techniques: Familiarity with various diagnostic methods, such as microscopy, rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), and molecular diagnostics.

Health Systems: Understanding of healthcare systems in Ethiopia, particularly in the context of malaria-endemic regions.

 Field Experience: Proven experience working in malaria-endemic regions, preferably with a focus on case management and diagnostics.

Data Collection and Analysis: Proficiency in data collection methods (surveys, interviews, observations) and data analysis techniques.

Needs Assessment Methodology: Experience in conducting needs assessments, including identifying gaps, priorities, and challenges.

Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including healthcare providers, community members, and government officials.

Language: Fluency in English and Amharic is essential. Other Ethiopian languages is advantageous
