Key Responsibilities:
Gold Aggregation & Collection:
- Oversee the collection and aggregation of gold from small-scale and artisanal miners, ensuring compliance with company standards and protocols.
- Coordinate with miners and vendors to ensure proper delivery of gold to the aggregation points, ensuring all gold is accounted for.
- Conduct initial quality inspections and purity tests on gold received to verify its authenticity and ensure it meets required standards.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of gold, safeguarding it from damage, loss, or theft.
Measurement & Quality Control:
- Accurately weigh, measure, and assess the quality of gold upon receipt from miners or vendors.
- Utilize appropriate gold purity testing equipment (e.g., XRF machines) to assess the gold’s quality.
- Ensure the consistency and reliability of measurement and quality testing procedures.
- Provide technical advice and support to miners and vendors on improving the quality of their gold.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all gold received, including the weight, quality, and source of the gold.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on gold aggregation, detailing quantities received, quality assessments, and any discrepancies.
- Ensure proper documentation and adherence to regulatory requirements for gold aggregation and trading activities.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to aggregation targets, quality control, and operational efficiency.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure all gold aggregation activities comply with local and national regulations, including those related to mining, trading, and environmental protection.
- Conduct regular audits of aggregation processes to identify any risks or non-compliance issues.
- Work with the compliance team to address any potential risks, including theft, fraud, or non-compliance with legal or company policies.
- Collaborate with local authorities, miners, and vendors to ensure transparency and accountability in gold aggregation.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with small-scale miners, artisanal miners, vendors, and other stakeholders involved in gold aggregation.
- Provide technical assistance to miners to improve the efficiency and quality of gold extraction and delivery processes.
- Work with the procurement team to ensure fair and transparent pricing for gold purchases.
Technical Support & Training:
- Provide technical training to small-scale miners on best practices for gold extraction, processing, and handling to improve the quality of gold.
- Assist in the identification and implementation of technological solutions to enhance the aggregation process, including improvements in gold testing and handling methods.
- Monitor technological trends in gold mining and aggregation to enhance operational efficiencies.
Qualifications and experience
- Grade 12 school certificate
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Metallurgy, Mining Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in gold aggregation, mining, or related fields.
- Registered member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) with valid subscription.
- Experience in quality control, measurement, and testing of minerals or precious metals is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with artisanal and small-scale mining practices is a plus.
- Knowledge of Zambian mining regulations, gold trading, and environmental standards is essential.
Skill Specifications:
- Strong technical skills in gold measurement, quality control, and testing procedures.
- Excellent attention to detail, especially in managing and documenting gold inventory.
- Good communication skills with the ability to engage with miners, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
- Proficiency in the use of gold testing equipment (e.g., XRF machines) and basic IT tools for reporting and record-keeping.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and implement process improvements.
