The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of Zambia Gold Company Ltd’s personnel, assets, and premises. The role involves monitoring and controlling access to the site, patrolling the facility, preventing theft, and responding to security incidents. The Security Officer will work closely with the security team and management to maintain a secure environment at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
Access Control:
- Monitor and control the entry and exit of all personnel and equipment at the mining site.
- Verify the identification and credentials of employees, contractors, and visitors before granting access to restricted areas.
- Ensure all visitors and contractors follow proper procedures, including signing in and being issued with temporary passes.
- Conduct random checks on vehicles and personnel entering and leaving the premises to prevent unauthorized access and the smuggling of illegal or stolen materials.
Patrolling & Surveillance:
- Perform regular patrols of the mining site, processing plant, offices, and surrounding areas to detect and deter any suspicious activities or security breaches.
- Monitor surveillance cameras (CCTV) and other security equipment to ensure that the entire facility is under constant observation.
- Inspect the perimeter, buildings, and storage areas for signs of unauthorized entry, vandalism, or other security threats.
- Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and incidents, and report any security concerns to the Security Supervisor or Security Manager.
Incident Response & Reporting:
- Respond quickly to any security incidents, including theft, unauthorized access, or safety hazards, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
- Investigate security breaches and provide detailed reports to the Security Supervisor or management, including witness statements and evidence collection.
- Assist in the apprehension of intruders or individuals engaged in illegal activities and coordinate with local law enforcement when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all incidents, daily activities, and any unusual occurrences.
Security Equipment & Procedures:
- Operate and maintain security equipment, such as CCTV cameras, radios, alarms, and access control systems.
- Conduct routine checks on security systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and report any malfunctions or issues.
- Assist in the development and implementation of security policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
- Ensure compliance with company security protocols, including search procedures for staff and contractors where necessary.
Safety & Emergency Preparedness:
- Monitor and enforce compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site, ensuring that staff adhere to safety policies.
- Assist in emergency situations, such as fires, medical emergencies, or evacuations, ensuring the safety of personnel and assets.
- Participate in safety drills, training sessions, and emergency preparedness programs as required.
Collaboration with Other Departments:
- Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless coordination of security efforts, especially during high-risk activities such as blasting, loading, or the movement of valuable materials.
- Assist in escorting and protecting high-value shipments or sensitive materials within the site and during transportation.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 school certificate
- Bachelors of Arts/Science Degree
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in security/ Police Service/ Military, preferably in a mining, industrial, or large-scale operational environment.
- Certification in Security
- Knowledge of security procedures, access control, and surveillance systems.
- Familiarity with Zambian laws and regulations related to security, trespassing, and theft prevention.
Skill Specifications:
- Strong observational and attention-to-detail skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergencies efficiently.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency response procedures.
- Physically fit and able to perform the duties required in a large and active mining environment.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency with security monitoring software and systems.
- Ability to driving a 4×4 vehicle
