The Assistant Security Officer will assist in ensuring the safety and security of Zambia Gold Company Ltd’s personnel, assets, and facilities. This role involves supporting security operations, assisting with access control, patrolling premises, and responding to security incidents. The Assistant Security Officer will work closely with the Security Officer to enforce security procedures and safeguard the mining site.

 Key Responsibilities:

Access Control Support:

  • Assist the Security Officer in monitoring and controlling the entry and exit of personnel, vehicles, and materials.
  • Verify the identity of employees, contractors, and visitors and ensure they follow the appropriate security procedures.
  • Assist in conducting random security checks on individuals and vehicles entering and exiting the site.
  • Ensure all visitors and contractors are logged, issued access passes, and briefed on security procedures.

Patrolling & Surveillance:

  • Conduct routine patrols of the mining site, processing areas, offices, and storage areas under the direction of the Security Officer.
  • Monitor designated areas for suspicious activities, unauthorized personnel, or security breaches.
  • Assist in monitoring security cameras (CCTV) and other surveillance equipment to detect potential security threats.
  • Report any observed security or safety issues to the Security Officer immediately.

Incident Response & Reporting:

  • Assist in responding to security incidents, emergencies, or alarms, ensuring that proper procedures are followed.
  • Help investigate minor incidents, such as unauthorized access, equipment tampering, or theft, under the guidance of the Security Officer.
  • Assist in preparing incident reports, including gathering witness statements and relevant evidence.
  • Maintain a daily log of activities, noting any unusual occurrences or security-related incidents.

Security Equipment & Procedures:

  • Assist in operating and maintaining security systems and equipment, including radios, CCTV cameras, and alarms.
  • Support the Security Officer in conducting routine checks on security equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Participate in security drills and ensure compliance with established security protocols.

Health, Safety & Emergency Assistance:

  • Monitor compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies on-site.
  • Assist in emergency situations such as medical incidents, fires, or evacuations, ensuring the safety of personnel.
  • Participate in safety training and drills, learning how to respond effectively to emergencies.

Collaboration with Security Team:

  • Work closely with other security personnel to ensure coordinated and effective security coverage throughout the site.
  • Assist the Security Officer in escorting valuable materials or high-risk shipments within the site as needed.
  • Follow instructions from the Security Supervisor or management to support security initiatives.

 Qualifications and experience

  • Grade 12 school certificate
  • Diploma in a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in security/ Police Service/ Military, preferably in a mining, industrial, or large-scale operational environment.
  • Certification in Security
  • Knowledge of security procedures, access control, and surveillance systems.
  • Familiarity with Zambian laws and regulations related to security, trespassing, and theft prevention.

Skill Specifications:

  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed during emergencies or high-pressure situations.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with security equipment such as CCTV cameras.
  • Physically fit and capable of carrying out patrolling duties.
  • Ability to driving a 4×4 vehicle
