This position is an exciting opportunity to get hands-on experience working with a professional humanitarian aid organization with 18 years of experience in emergency and trauma. In addition, this is a chance to be part of the leading team of IsraAID HQ, supporting field staff in their mission of offering services to people recovering from a disaster and/or experiencing ongoing stress in difficult living conditions.

IsraAID, founded in 2001, is a non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to providing life-saving disaster relief and long-term support. Our teams of professional medics, water engineers, post-trauma experts, and community mobilizers have been on the front lines of nearly every major humanitarian response in the 21st century. Our mission is to support people affected by humanitarian crises. We partner with local communities worldwide to provide urgent aid, assist in recovery, and reduce the risk of future disasters. IsraAID HQ is based in Tel Aviv and supports all IsraAID programs, both development, and emergency, worldwide. The Head of the Education sector will work as part of the programs department to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of EDUCATION programs worldwide, striving to increase the scope and depth of IsraAID activities.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
IsraAID’s Head of the Education Sector will work with the programs and emergency department to develop the sector’s capacity to offer quality programs. The coordinator’s activity will be designed according to a development plan based on the sector’s annual goals and field needs.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND COMPETENCIES
Main areas of responsibility:
- Take leadership in the strategic development of the IsraAID Education sector.
- Oversee and contribute to developing the sectoral body of knowledge according to the most recent theoretical developments and humanitarian aid agenda in stable environments and emergency settings.
- Offer technical support to deployed teams delivering Education programs in emergency operations and development contexts in accordance with the program cycle. Develop and offer leadership in the building of IsraAID’s community of education experts
Detailed responsibilities:
1. Take leadership in the strategic development of the IsraAID Education sector in stable environments and emergency humanitarian settings.
- Offer leadership in the design and implementation of the sector strategic work-plan
- Represent IsraAID in Education Inter-Agency Standing Committee activities and content development
- Support the building and maintaining of high-level Education sector-related partnerships with recognized institutions
- Coordinate and support collaboration with academic research
2. Oversee and contribute to developing the sectoral body of knowledge in accordance with the most recent theoretical developments and humanitarian aid agenda in stable environments and emergency settings.
- Take leadership in the design of the sectoral body of knowledge in identified intervention modules to the level of module guidebook of approach, trainer’s handbook, and relevant tools
- Take leadership in the development of appropriate programming tools for the development, implementation, and closing of education programs in emergency and stable environments
- Continued development of IsraAID Education operational response modules in emergencies
3. Offer technical support to deployed teams delivering education programs in emergency operations and development contexts in accordance with the program cycle
- Deploy to emergency missions as an education specialist as part of the initial response team. Offer education in emergency response and education program planning for future implementation.
- Participate in the development of programs in countries of reference, including the development, implementation, and ending of education programs, in accordance with the program cycle.
- Support the HR department in the establishment of an Education roster and recruitment for emergency missions and humanitarian/development Education programs
- Offer technical support to deployed teams delivering Education programs as needed, in accordance with the program cycle.
- Support the timely submission of education program reports
- Design standards of operations for education interventions in emergencies
- Develop and conduct training and orientation for IsraAID education staff prior to, during and post their mission
- Offer online support, guidance, and capacity building to education staff for the intervention’s program design, assessment, and planning.
- Conduct debriefing sessions with assigned education teams on return from missions
4. Continue to develop and offer leadership in the building of IsraAID’s community of education experts.
- Conduct conferences and training for IsraAID Education communities
- Develop and implement online capacity-building tools for education staff
Qualifications:
Required:
- Fluent in written and spoken English, Spanish- an advantage.
- M.A. level of academic background in education or education-related studies.
- Proven experience in implementing education programs in the context of developing countries, crisis zone, or emergency settings
- Minimum of 5 years experience working in education systems.
- Experience in education policies development and early childhood education- Advantage.
- Proven background in staff guidance and supervision.
- Remote position. Based in Israel\ in the LAC region- Advantage.
CONDITIONS
- 42 weekly working hours.
- Approx. Three deployments during the year of up to 3 weeks.
