“And David’s two wives were taken captives…And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.”
1 Sam 30:5-6
Whatever challenge you may be facing, maintain the attitude of a victor. David had his wives and some of his people captured. Above all, his own folks spoke of stonning him. It seemed bad news was coming from all directions, including from those who ought to have had stood by him. David wept heavily and was greatly distressed, but nothing changed. Nobody offered him any comfort or help. The bible says, “but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” All your family, friends and even your spouse may be against you, at the same time your boss at work seems to pour fires of hell on you, Instead of saying “Oh God, why me?” You are to encourage yourself in the LORD.
The mystery of Christianity is the ability of God to talk to us through ourselves. Many times, I get prophetic words through the interpretation of my own tongues, and I get edified by words that come out of my own mouth. I don’t wait for anybody to come and say to me, “Thus saith the Lord to you …” No, such people don’t usually come my way, but there is one person who is always available, and it’s me. I can talk to myself anytime. I have learned to encourage myself in the LORD even when no human person stood by me. Human love is fickle, so don’t build your life on it.
It’s not always when you should ask people to pray for you or to help you. Sometimes nobody seems to support you, all the folks you think of calling will either not pick up or just answer rudely. Your own mother or brother may be at the top of nailing you. At such a time, you ought to encourage yourself, not even your seemingly closest friend may be available for you, but remember, the LORD said, “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.” At such a time, you ought to begin to say.”The LORD is the strength of my life. The Lord is my light and my salvation. The LORD is my defense. I am planted by him. The LORD is my shepherd I shall not want. The LORD is with me, and the LORD is in me. Therefore, I have the victory.”
This is better than locking the door to cry or complain to God.
You will discover that David didn’t pray to God until he had encouraged himself in God. He made sure he would talk to God in an attitude of faith, and when he did, God gave him a word that brought him the solution. Your uncle’s phone may not be reachable, but the LORD is always reachable. Encourage yourself in him. Talk of the miracles he has wrought for you. Celebrate and testify of his goodness. The fact that you meet opposition does not mean you have done something wrong.
