” Surely you know that many runners take part in a race, but only one of them wins the prize. Run, then, in such a way as to win the prize. Every athlete in training submits to strict discipline, in order to be crowned with a wreath that will not last; but we do it for one that will last for ever.”
1 Cor 9:24-25
The text says, ” Run, then in such a way as to win the prize”. Sometime ago, my young brother asked me to pray for his friend who was sick or help by any means possible. I asked him if the friend was a believer and he expressed doubts. I responded by saying, ” Then your friend is surely going to die”. The response seemed very harsh and my brother immediately stopped the conversation. A few weeks later that fellow died as I had said. I did not prophesy his death, I knew from the scriptures that if one responds this way to the word then he will end up there. I once wrote a message titled , A PREDICTABLE DESTINY which can be a blessing to you.
There is a way some people live that guarantees them failure. For example, you are never going to be a medical doctor if you are studying accounting. Success is not mysterious, you don’t necessarily have to pray to become a medical Doctor, if you will attend a medical school and study hard, you will become a medical Doctor even if you are not a Christian. Proverbs 14:23 says ” In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.” If a non christian lives by the right principles and works, he will make money whilst the christians are broke and waiting for miracles. Run in such a way as to win, that means, live your life with principles that make you a success. Nobody ever became a success by wishing and hoping. Our calling into Christ is not a call into foolishness, Christ has been made unto us wisdom.
There are things you can do to make your life better. One of them is becoming diligent, being a Christian doesnt mean you should not study and just expect to pass exams by miracle means. We shouldn’t waif for miracles to feed our families. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 says ” For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. Don’t be a lazy Christian.
