We’re looking for someone highly motivated and passionate about conservation, communities and tangible impact to join the growing TNC Zambia team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative, innovative individual with excellent communication competencies to play a key role in the growth, evolution and success of the country programme, ensuring all components of the country programme are aligned and organised and collaborating around common goals, work plans and deadlines, and are responsive to changing dynamics within the environment in which they operate.

Reporting to the Zambia Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Manager the Intern will be based at the TNC offices in Lusaka, Zambia. No employment visas or assistance is being offered with this position except for the local labour employment requirements.

Specifically, the MEL Intern will:

Gather, organize, and consolidate all existing baseline and research data from various workstreams within the Zambia program

Use the data to generate socio-economic profiles of TNC’s focal areas (e.g. populations, primary livelihoods, average incomes, etc)

Working with GIS Intern, collate and verify program area data prior to digitizing for mapping.

Assist with responses to data requests from internal and external teams promptly and accurately.

Assist in the preparation of data reports and presentations for internal and external teams

Support the Programme Coordinator in preparing for program reviews by compiling necessary data and documentation.

Assist in the development of Program review materials, including presentations and summary reports.

Participate in program review meetings and take detailed notes for follow-up actions.Collect news, updates, and learnings from various teams within the program.

Assist in the creation of visual aids (e.g., charts, graphs) to enhance reports and newsletters.

Support the development of tools to collect data from community participants in TNC’s programme activities

Participate in field visits to collect primary data and monitor program activities.

Provide general administrative support to the MEL team, including scheduling meetings and managing correspondence.

Assist in organizing workshops, training sessions, and other MEL-related events.

Maintain organized records of all MEL activities and documentation.

Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in MEL to inform program strategies.

Periodically attend relevant meetings, workshops and training in the conservation space

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, Natural Resource Management or environmental Management
  • Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree holder in a relevant field such as statistics, economics, social science or a related discipline.
  • Certification in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) or data analysis is a plus
  • Proficiency in data management and analysis tools e.g Excel, SPSS, R and familiarity with M&E frameworks and methodologies
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to interpret and present data clearly and effectively.
  • Experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to draft clear and concise reports and presentations.
  • Strong organisational, time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines, attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, strong interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and tasks.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and professional development, proactive and self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

  • Analytical and project management skills
  • Proficiency in project management software and office applications (MS Office suite)
