Makerere University with six other African Institutions and two German Institutions has received support from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the program on Research Networks for in Health Innovations in Sub-Saharan Africa (RHISSA African One Health Network for Disease Prevention (ADAPT) project is aimed at building a One Health Research and Capacity Building for sustainable stewardship of Antimicrobials through Post-doctoral, PhD and Msc training as well as several capacity building workshops.

DATA MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT

ADAPT is seeking to employ a Data management officer for the project who will be responsible for Data storage, Records management, information dissemination, planning and tracking the activities of the fellows and keeping time sheets.

Person Specification

• A Bachelor’s degree in any field plus postgraduate certificate in project management, Human Resource management or records management.
• Evidence of excellent ICT skills with proficiency in databases, MS word, Spreadsheets, and web applications.
• Evidence of having worked as a research or program assistant in any project.
• Person/organisation management competences.
• Should be posses the values of integrity, high motivation.
• Should be able to work under pressure to meet set goals and deadlines.

The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni, has laid the foundation stone for Makerere University’s School of Graduate Studies building, whose construction is now underway.

The Minister laid the foundation stone during a brief function held on Wednesday 18th December 2024 at the site opposite Makerere University’s Lumumba Hall. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the State Minister for Primary Education, Hon. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, University Council Chairperson Mrs. Lorna Magara, and Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe.

Others in attendance included Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration, Professor Henry Alinaitwe; Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Professor Buyinza Mukadasi; University Secretary Mr. Yusuf Kiranda; Dean of Students Winfred Kabumbuli; Guild President Vincent Lubega Nsamba; and the Vice Guild President, Joy Eve Serunjogi among others.

The building is a donation (in-kind) from the late Hasmukh Patel, an industrialist and former Chairman of Tororo Cement. Before his passing on August 29, 2024, after a short illness, the Minister of Education and Sports and the University leadership held several strategic meetings with Mr. Patel and his family regarding this donation. His family and Tororo Cement are implementing his wishes to construct the building, which will house the School of Graduate Studies at Makerere University.

Before laying the foundation stone for the School of Graduate Studies building, Hon. Janet Museveni first unveiled a plaque to officially open the new building for the School of Law. She then headed to Lumumba Hall, where she unveiled another plaque marking the completion of its renovation.
