Reporting to the Mining production Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out operational projects and assisting the mining operation to focus on meeting production targets.
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Provide administrative and technical direction to the projects team.
- Forecasts necessary funds for staffing, materials and capital improvement projects.
- Develop plans and coordinate the work plan for assigned projects and responsibilities which may include project management, cost estimates and program development.
- Coordinate work with other units and site departments.
- Coordinate the activities of consultants and contractors in the mining department.
- Execute reclamation and environmental activities.
- Manage and control ancillary equipment and all rental machines.
- Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness. Review and confirm contractor’s safe work plan prior to commencement of any work. Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
- Be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the team.
- Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
- Maintain and develop relationships with stakeholders in LMC’s mining activities, consistent with Barrick’s Community Relations Policies.
- Become actively involved in Barrick’s aims and objectives of engaging with the local community and strive to leave a positive impact on the longer-term outcomes for local people. Promote the integration between this engagement and the success of the business.
- Prepare and manage the budget for the function.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of up to date job procedures for all tasks performed within the function.
- Develop objectives for sharing common infrastructure and support services across Barrick and cascade this throughout function.
- Carry out any other adhoc production related requests as necessary.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must have a Grade 12 School Certificate.
- Degree in Mining Engineering
- Significant experience (10 years) in the open pit mining industry in large multi pit operations utilising large scale mining equipment i.e drill rigs and blasting experience essential.
- Experience in managing costs and budgeting
- Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications.
- Strong report writing and presentation skills.
- Able to clearly demonstrate the aptitude to drive a light vehicle and hold a current Zambian drivers licence or be able to obtain one
- Competent in incident/accident investigation
