Job description

Free to Run’s MOVE strategy was developed in late 2024 and aims to build a global movement of people who actively run for gender equity. This position plays a lead role in bringing this strategy to life by spearheading impactful campaigns and initiatives on a global scale.

The part-time Campaigns Manager will lead the development, execution, and evaluation of multi-channel campaigns, in line with the MOVE strategy. This position works cross-functionally to ensure Free to Run’s campaigns inspire action, recruit new running activists, engage Free to Run supporters, and amplify the stories and voices of our community.

This exciting new position is perfect for a creative and strategic thinker with ambition, big ideas and a background in digital marketing who thrives on building movements, engaging diverse communities, and delivering dynamic campaigns.

This role reports to the Director of Development and Communications and is a part-time, fully remote position that may require occasional travel. Hours are estimated at 15-20 per week, with flexibility for the right candidate. While candidates may be based anywhere in the world, a preference will be given to those based in North America, the UK, and Europe, given the location of Free to Run’s largest audiences and events. This role has the potential to grow into a full-time position in the future, as the MOVE strategy evolves.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) Develop, refine, and track progress on Free to Run’s MOVE strategy (15%)

  • Evolve the overarching MOVE strategy as needed, identify annual strategic priorities, and develop campaign timelines in collaboration with the Director of Development and Communications, ensuring full alignment across the organization

  • Ensure all MOVE-related activities align seamlessly with the organization’s mission and broader fundraising, communications, and engagement goals

  • Identify and pursue strategic partnerships to advance MOVE goals, with team support.

  • Collaborate with the Impact and Learning Specialist to establish clear success metrics for MOVE and individual campaigns

  • Monitor, evaluate, and lead learning discussions with the team on strategy and campaign performance

2) Lead the full life cycle of multi-channel MOVE campaigns on a global scale (60%)

  • Lead the execution of the MOVE strategy through designing and executing high-impact campaigns and creative initiatives in collaboration with agency and/or corporate partners and the Free to Run team

  • Draft strategic and creative briefs to guide campaign and initiative development where needed

  • Project manage all elements of campaigns with a high degree of detail and forward-thinking, including the Safe Marathon annually in March, and all new campaigns developed in line with the MOVE Strategy

  • Develop engaging content and digital assets for use across social media, email, blog posts, and website to ensure the visibility and success of campaigns across Free to Run channels

  • Lead the development of paid advertising campaigns (Meta, Google Ads, other platforms as identified)

  • Lead the development of a symbol or rallying cry for running as a form of activism

  • Develop strategies to engage influencers and nurture these relationships to expand campaign reach and impact

  • Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets; respond to opportunities to elevate Free to Run’s mission and campaigns

3) Engage and nurture a global community of runners, activists, and Free to Run supporters (20%)

  • Work with the Community Engagement & Fundraising Officer to test and implement new tactics to recruit individuals and groups into the movement, building on existing approaches like peer-to-peer fundraising, run club collaboration, and Free to Run alumni engagement

  • Amplify extraordinary efforts and stories of individuals and groups within the Free to Run movement

  • Ensure campaign participants are accurately tracked in the CRM and nurtured, in collaboration with the Development team

  • Work with the Free to Run team to create new opportunities for existing supporters to get involved

4) Engage with the Free to Run Team (5%)

  • Participate in weekly 1 on 1 meetings with manager

  • Participate in performance planning, goal setting, and evaluation activities

  • Liaise with key staff across functions of this position

  • Attend team meetings and participate in strategic planning and evaluation meetings
