TechnoServe is seeking a Food Fortification Senior Specialist for the anticipated five year LSSFA Activity. The successful candidate will work with the food processing industry to apply a whole-of-business approach to improve and sustain their compliance with quality standards, leading to increased availability of fortified staple foods. The Senior Specialist will gather and use information to identify support needs, provide technical support and advisory services, assess the feasibility of new approaches and ensure the highest standard of quality and delivery of project interventions.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities:

● With guidance and coordination from the Senior Technical Manager, conduct assessments to identify training and capacity-strengthening needs among industry stakeholders
● Develop capacity support plans and provide contextualized, data-informed technical advisory services to individual food processors that address gaps in business and technical capacity, with particular attention to good food fortification practices
● Conduct training in a range of settings, such as in-person workshops or on-the-job trainings
● Support sector-wide trainings (SWT) conducted in partnership with local training service providers on topics such as fortification technology, food safety and quality control, business strategy, and financing
● In coordination with the Research and Data Analyst, manage small-scale assessments and analyses to understand industry-specific challenges as needed
● Translate key learning and best practice into knowledge products that facilitate the sharing of knowledge across the team and with key stakeholders, such as standard operating procedures, training materials, or other guidance documents
● Contribute to the development of tools, resources, guides, and other materials
● Ensure timely delivery of assigned activities against work plan, following up and providing support to ensure the highest quality and relevance

Basic Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in food science, economics, business, or other relevant subject; Master’s degree preferred
● Minimum 5 years of professional experience, or 3 years with Master’s degree
● Deep understanding of the food processing industry and the ecosystem within which it operates
● Implementation experience addressing industry challenges, either as a consultant, processor, or development partner
● Experience conducting assessments in the private sector or food processing industry
● Familiarity with large-scale food fortification and processing

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
● Able to build rapport and communicate effectively and confidently with industry decision-makers and other stakeholders
● Experience in capacity-strengthening and training; experience in on-the-job support preferred
● Understanding of key principles and challenges in large-scale food fortification
● Strong writing skills to write concise, analytical reports to different audiences
● Ability to work under tight deadlines while managing multiple tasks and activities
● Highly motivated to grow, develop, and take on new challenges over time
● Strong understanding of the food industry in Zambia
