” Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only. 4:16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity. 4:17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account… 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

If there is anything I really struggled with, it’s the message of giving and receiving. I supposed if God has given us all things freely, why do I have to give to receive. I used to think giving and receiving is a message of preachers to steal money from unsuspecting congregants. From a younger age, I had been knowledgeable in many subjects in scripture, so much so that my Pastor would trust me to even preach on giving and partnership. I would preach it for the sake of the Pastor and parrot what I had heard, but I didn’t even believe what I preached. Yes, I would give here and there, but that would really take a serious spiritual encounter to motivate me to give. I grew up and became a preacher, and I decided I was not going to steal people’s money. I avoided asking people to give for anything we wanted to do for the kingdom. I didn’t want to burden people and also appear as though we are taking ministry as a business. I generally didn’t like some practices I saw with some preachers, so I had lots of excuses for not giving and i wasn’t going to ask people to give when I myself didn’t believe in it.
Poverty has no respect for preachers . You can cast out devils and be broke, and that really describes my portion. A friend of mine changed my attitude on giving, he always gave, and he never lacked , he would share with me from scriptures, and I finally got it. I reasoned, there is no reason why my friend would manipulate me to give because I wasn’t going to give to him anyway. He isn’t even a Pastor, so he wasn’t twisting scriptures for his benefit or trying to steal my offerings. The long story short is that I was broke and am broke no more. I learnt to give and give big. I learnt to worship God primarily with my offerings. The message floods the scriptures and so plain even from Genesis but for some reason I always missed it.There are very few messages on giving and receiving that will sound good to you if you have not made up your mind to do the word. Our opening scripture is a message from Apostle Paul, he pronounced a blessing in the 19th verse, but that was a consequence of verse 15-18. You can declare verse 19 a million times, but if you will miss on verses 15-18, then you may harvest nothing but frustration. We will share in depth in the following days.
