UNEP Tanzania Office is part of the Africa office, headed by the Regional Director and Representative. The architecture of the UNEP Office in Tanzania is inclined to a representational role, coordination and integration of UNEP’s inputs and commitments to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and liaison with the host government.
Under the direct supervision of the National Coordinator and head of the Tanzania office, the

Communications and Partnerships Intern will undertake the following tasks:
• Support the UNEP Tanzania Office’s communication team. This includes assisting in quarterly UN Communication Group meetings, monitoring the effectiveness of communication activities and partnerships, and preparing reports with recommendations for improvement.

• Support the development and preparation of online and offline communication materials. This includes creating content for various platforms such as reports, quarterly newsletters, social media, and press releases, ensuring effective communication of UNEP’s mission and activities.

• Support the identification of partnership opportunities and resources that can be mobilized both locally and regionally to enhance efforts in environmental sustainability and economic growth. This may involve researching potential partners and drafting outreach materials.

• Assist in planning and organizing meetings, training workshops, and other events. This includes logistical arrangements, preparing materials, and ensuring effective communication before, during, and after events.

• Undertake any other activities assigned by the supervisor that support the goals of the communications and partnerships team.

Qualifications/special skills
• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
• be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
• be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
• Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

• Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. • Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.

Languages
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Basic level of Swahili is desirable.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
