” As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec. Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;”
Heb 5:6-7
The above portion gives reference to the priesthood of our very High Priest and Lord, JESUS CHRIST who has an everlasting priesthood. GOD IS A GOD WHO DEMANDS WORSHIP FROM HIS PEOPLE. GOD DOES NOT BEG ANYONE TO SERVE HIM, HE COMMANDS MAN TO SERVE HIM. God does not have to entice anybody with gifts for them to worship him. Whether the people had a good harvest or not, he demanded tithe from them in the old testament, the people were commanded to obey him whether they were hungry or full, and GOD IS AN EVERLASTING KING. HE IS A MIGHTY GOD. ONE THAT IS WORTHY OF ALL OUR PRAISE. It is evil not to serve God.
Samuel was a Prophet and a Priest and he declared “Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.”
1 Sam 12:23-24 This dear priest of God considered it a sin before God not to offer prayers of intercession for the people. He was not to expect God to reward him for his intercessory ministry. It was a responsibility God put on him because God is the Great and Mighty King who has power over his creation. Samuel did God service, but he commanded the people to serve God in truth and with all their hearts and to fear him. IT SEEMS EVERYONE IN MY DAY WANTS A REWARD FOR HIM TO DO WHAT GOD HAS COMMANDED; may God forgive you if you are such. Our LORD JESUS obeyed the Father in offering his body to die for our sins. He didn’t benefit anything from that. He simply did God service. In our priesthood, we should know there are things we are commanded to do, whether or not there is a reward.
I do things that my earthly Father commands me to do, not because I want a reward but I do those things in honor of him. Don’t serve God for selfish purposes. Serve him because you love him and honor him. Offer prayers, supplications, sacrifices, and do God service with fear that God is King of the Universe. Don’t wait for anyone to persuade you to serve God. YOU SHOULD WAKE UP DAILY WITH A DESIRE TO SERVE GOD WITH YOUR WHOLE LIFE, THAT IS BEING SPIRITUAL.
