Job description

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and eligible citizens of Uganda to fill the vacant posts available in the Judiciary Service as specified below. Applications, using Judicial Service Commission Application Form No.1 of 2021 (for position of Magistrate Grade One) and Judicial Service Commission Application Form No.2 of 2024 (for Administrative and Other Staff), should be completed and submitted to the email address provided for each position by not later than midnight of 6*h June 2025.

Instructions to applicants:

a) Judicial Service Commission Application Form No.1 of 2021 (for position of Magistrate Grade One) and Judicial Service Commission Application Form No.2 of 2024 (for Administrative and Other Staff) can be accessed at https://www.jsc.go.ug/news/jsc-application-forms

b) Type to fill in the respective JSC Application Form.

Handwritten forms will not be accepted

C) Print the respective JSC Application Form.

d) Submit the respective JSC Application Form to the email addresses for each position, along with the following documents included, in the order below, all as a single PDF document:

i. A copy of the applicant’s national identity card

ii. A passport-size photograph.

iii. An up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV).

iv. Copies of academic certificates and transcripts certified by the issuing institution.

Note: The Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) should be certified by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

V. Names, contacts and letters of recommendation of two (2) professional and two (2) character referees.

vi. A Certificate of Enrolment for position Magistrate Grade One.

vii. A certified copy of the applicant’s latest and complete Declaration of Income, Assets and Liabilities from the Inspectorate of Government.

viii. Copies of previous appointment, confirmation and promotion letters (where applicable).

ix. Any other relevant documents.

Minimum qualifications and working experience:

Applicants shall be Ugandan citizens holding a Degree (at least a Second-Class Lower Division) in any of the following disciplines: Secretarial Studies; Business and Office Management; Office and Information Management;

Administrative and Secretarial Science; Management, Administrative and Secretarial Studies; or any other relevant degree in the field of Secretarial Studies from a recognised university or awarding institution.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Attending to hearings, depositions, proceedings, and other types of events that require a written transcript;
  • Transcribing verbatim proceedings of courts using computerised recording equipment, electronic machines, or stenographic equipment;
  • Filing and storing shorthand notes and recordings of court sessions;
  • Availing copies of transcriptions to the courts, legal counsels and any other parties involved;
  • Filing legible transcripts of records of a court case with the court clerk’s office; and
  • Maintaining the transcription and other office equipment under his or her care.
