Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Report on assigned Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to the Community Development Coordinator.
- Implement an agriculture support strategy focusing on research and the promotion of innovative and sustainable agriculture development initiatives including training for local farmers, especially women.
- Produce a monthly report on program activities including output achievements, constraints, and direction.
- Research farming systems, identify and promote sustainable models of agriculture production for small scale and emergent farmers.
- Facilitate the implementation of effective agriculture methodology through leadership in extension services, model commercial production and monitoring of funded agro projects.
- Hanes for local farmer linkages and manage Agri related business development services providers assisting with extension, training, value addition, market linkages and input supply.
- Identify and liaise with appropriate Agribusiness stakeholders from among local authorities, traditional leaders, schools, co-operatives, businesses, and local communities to ensure a coordinated and multi-agency approach.
- Ensure local farmers access cost effective and client oriented Agro-financial services (loans, savings, and insurance).
- In liaison with the Livelihoods Officer provide advisory services to agribusiness investment proposals.
- Facilitate tested public consultation and participation approaches to generate agro development initiatives involving people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Participate in agriculture and environmental education initiatives and awareness raising activities.
- Maintain a pro-active approach to all aspects of operational and behavioral safety in line with Lumwana Mining Company values.
- Ensure both computer-based records and hard copy records are maintained and updated at all times.
- Work with immediate Supervisors and the rest of the team in a productive manner.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Full Grade 12 certificate
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture
- Minimum experience (3 years) in Agriculture research, innovative agricultural methodologies, and agribusiness.
- Extensive knowledge about sustainable agriculture and community led programs.
- Ability to travel frequently in the local area with a radius of over 100kms.
- Good understanding of local customs and practice.
- Good understanding of expectations of the community in the area.
- Able to clearly demonstrate the aptitude to drive a light vehicle and hold a current Zambian drivers licence or be able to obtain one.
- Be physically fit and be able to pass a pre-employment medical examination.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English and show a commitment to understand local culture.
- Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
- Demonstrated ability to improve team safety awareness.
- Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas.
